Pictured, Janet has a solitary moment in Three Sisters with Hunter and Rocky. All of us in Citrus County know about Three Sisters Springs. It’s our own National Wildlife Refuge that made the cover of National Geographic Magazine. But many folks forget that Three Sisters almost became a high-density residential condominium community. Most folks felt that was wrong, It took a small group of people to organize and raise more than $10 million to protect the land. Yes, some government agencies stepped in with big checks. But don’t forget the names of Crystal River City Manager Andy Houston, Friends president Lace Blue McLean. K.C. Nayfield, Ellie Schiller and Byron Costley. Don’t forget that the uprising of public support made it such a popular effort that even the members of the Inverness City Council contributed personal funds to make it happen. When citizens come together for the right cause, they can push government to do the right thing. Let’s forever let Three Sisters be the example of how good things happen.

Enjoy a quite walk while you stay?

I regularly hear from people who live within a few miles of Crystal River Preserve State Park, but never feel they "have the time" to visit.

To this I say: PSHHAWWWW!!!!

Everybody has a time to swing off of US19 onto State Park St. and soak up a few moments of incredible beauty. Take just 15 minutes from your busy day to refresh your soul and renew your spirit. Any time you find yourself in Crystal River for anything - or if you actually live in CR! - make it a point to also visit the park.

No matter the season, you can have a fabulous mini-visit to Crystal River Preserve State Park, without ever leaving you car.

This week, we’ll look at a few of the magnificent scenes that can be viewed every single day at the Crystal
River Preserve from your car. Of course, if you have more time, definitely explore some of the trails!
