It's amazing what 24 hours can do.

Two nights ago I called Glen Carlson feeling totally frustrated and helpless about the Australian fires I said that I felt pretty useless on the other side of the world. I was shocked when he was silent and then in a choked-up voice he said "our whole country is on fire". I got choked up too and neither of us spoke for about a minute as we held back the tears.

We then thought about what we could do. Glen started by posting in Dent Key Person of Influence forum asking for ideas.

The first comment, a client Justine Goodson Coombe raised her hand in need of some serious help. Her and two other women are trying to support 80 firefighters in her town of Adaminaby - right in the front line of fire.

I then put a post on my FB which lead to AUS$15k raised overnight. The money went straight into my PayPal account.

PayPal are slow to release funds but it doesn't matter. Because there are trusted relationships in place, Glen is using his personal funds to get things moving while the money clears.

Glen is currently driving 10hrs across NSW to drop over a tonne of supplies at a safe meeting point. He's got $2000 of cash to give to the local fire chief for petrol and supplies. He's now got a budget of $15K in total to feed firefighters, fuel their vehicles and get them some much-needed supplies (like burn cream, eyewash, fireproof gloves etc).

I'm inspired how by how much has happened since that first phone call. From feeling helpless on the other side of the world to making a small dent... I'm now choked up again, but the reason is I'm more hopeful.
