Taking a second today to congratulate and say how proud I am of my team on Travel Advisors Day. They had achieved large goals set forth for them from myself and vendors for 2020. This year was on track to be a pretty special one for this little company. Come March, everything came to a screeching hault. We know that things could be much worse and we are very lucky to have jobs/bookings to look forward to in the future. But in the meantime keeping our heads above water has been a daily struggle.
This amazing group of ladies have worked day and night for our clients. It has not been easy, fun, or something anyone would want to sign up for! Doing your job twice or even three times as much for a pay cut or no money at all is not ideal. Still they persevered with a happy heart...knowing we were making things easier for others in a hard time. I’m so proud of them and the care they show daily for all of our clients! Cheers to better times ahead! Today I salute you Amanda, Whitney, Melissa, and Dinah! ❤️❤️❤️

We have been asked an obscene amount of times and have received hundreds of emails and messages about if Disney is not opening until 2021. This rumor is based on a wild speculation of one analyst that has taken over the internet and our inboxes. Disney has made no such statement. We think it is irresponsible to panic people, including our clients just so articles can make money on clicks. Don’t let them fool you.

There I was enjoying an amazing dinner on the beach....⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

when all of a sudden I was having warm, nasty tequila poured down my throat. I knew it would be bad, but I didn’t know just how bad. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I can’t think of a better way to sum up my thoughts on Covid-19 and the havoc it has reeked on my clients’ travel and my business. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I never dreamed when this popped up that we would be where we are today. I was in the midst of proposing a group trip to Southeast Asia when we decided it would be best for them to wait to make a decision until “this passed over.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fast forward two+ months, and borders have closed, travel bans put in place, and many of my clients’ dream vacations put on hold “until further notice.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This year started out as a record year for me and this amazing travel business that I have built. Now there is no foreseeable income for the next few months. I work hard to save my clients money as we navigate these unprecedented times, often forgoing my own hard earned commissions in the meantime. I kind of fell into this whole travel thing.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Looking back, I've been on this path forever, but it wasn't something I planned to do. I've traveled my whole life, went to school for hospitality management & travel, was an event planner and worked for a business travel company. But being a travel advisor never crossed my mind. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

• empathy: the ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes is a MUST. It's not my budget or my vacation that I'm planning after all, it's yours.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

• creativity: there’s very little that’s cookie-cutter about this process - no two trips are going to be exactly alike⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⁠⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• problem-solving : sometimes that creativity expresses itself as painstakingly going through 10 different proposed itinerary edits to find the right balance between the location, budget and client's wants/needs⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⁠⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• attention to detail combined with critical thinking - I can’t just proofread an itinerary; I need to pay attention to every aspect of it to ensure I haven’t missed something and that it flows properly⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Obviously, a love of travel is also critical, but that isn’t going to get you through being on hold with a supplier for two hours...⁠⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The suppliers that I work with (hotels, cruises, resorts, etc) pay me a “commission” for bringing them business so I am able to provide a concierge level service at NO COST TO YOU.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

And, it doesn’t cost you any extra either. If you book directly with those same suppliers, they keep that commission amount as a marketing cost and/or profit. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So you get less stress to plan your vacation, while supporting a small business at the same time. Win/Win I would say!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

We learned a lot about ourselves on that trip.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

My first experience with an all inclusive resort was on my honeymoon. We didn’t use a travel advisor (oh, the horror!) and we basically just googled honeymoon resorts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We found a resort that looked great, picked our dates, and booked it. Easy peasy!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When we got there though, it was just a little too quiet, and romantic, and peaceful for our tastes. We quickly got into a routine of spending the mornings at the resort, then hopping on the city bus into town to experience the local culture.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The resort we stayed at was great, don’t get me wrong! I still recommend it for couples looking for a relaxing vacation. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But we learned for ourselves that we need action, the ability to leave the resort, and to experience the destination. Ever since then, this is a requirement for our vacations!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Had we used a travel advisor, we probably would have been led towards a resort that would have fit us much better. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
