Tag Along Tour with Alan Weyer


Embark on a captivating historical journey through the Eastern Cape with the renowned historian and storyteller, Alan Weyer. Alan's engaging narratives will breathe life into this region's rich history, marked by extraordinary battles and courageous individuals, elevating your visit to the Eastern Cape to a whole new level.
Discover the untamed spirit of the 1700 and 1800s when Dutch Farmers, British soldiers, immigrants, and European explorers ventured to the southernmost tip of the African continent. They arrived in a land where the spiritual San people and the mighty AmaXhosa thrived, and what they encountered in this vast landscape surpassed their wildest dreams. This tour offers a rare and unique insight into their lives, the profound impact of Eastern Cape's proud history, and its far-reaching consequences.
What You'll Need
Prepare for an adventure. You'll need a high-clearance vehicle, as we'll be exploring off-the-beaten-track sites. Each vehicle will be equipped with handheld two-way radios for commentary and coordination. Don't forget to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring along your sense of adventure.

Itinerary
1. We'll commence our journey in Grahamstown, where Alan will provide an introductory session on Eastern Cape history atop Signal Hill, just south of the town.
2. Our route takes us north through the scenic Ecca Pass and into the Great Fish River Reserve complex, with stops at lesser-known historical sites.
3. We'll proceed to Fort Beaufort, passing through the Kat River Valley, and make our way to the Katberg Hotel for an overnight stay.
4. The following day, we'll ascend the mountains, visiting Post Retief and Fort Fordyce atop Kroome Mountain, the site of fierce battles during the 8th Frontier war.
5. Our journey continues from Fordyce to Fort Beaufort, exploring various historical sites within the town.
6. We'll depart from Fort Beaufort and retrace our steps back to Grahamstown, with stops at places of interest along the way.
7. The tour will draw to a close as we return to Grahamstown in the late afternoon.
Your experience includes:
1. Accommodation.
2. All meals, including picnic lunches on both days, dinner, and breakfast.
3. Entrance fees to historical sites.
4. Complimentary tea, coffee, and soft drinks during the journey.
What's Not Included
Please note that alcoholic beverages are not included in the tour.
Pricing
The cost of this extraordinary journey ranges from R3000 to R3500 per person, depending on the number of participants and seasonal accommodation rates. (Minimum No of Participants 8)
