Cape Town's iconic Table Mountain can be spotted from hundreds of kilometers away out at sea. Early mariners would eagerly look out for this giant "Inn sign" with its promise of fresh food, water, and numerous taverns. In fact Cape Town became known as the "Tavern of the Seas".

There’s so many spectacular things about Cape Town, it’s hard to know where to start. But the weather, the beaches and the views are definitely three of them 😎

It’s International Cheetah Day, so here’s a cheetah family taking it easy in the heat of the day, while some curious giraffes keep an eye on things.

It's !

Florence and Henri from 🇧🇪 recently enjoyed a luxury safari in Botswana and Zimbabwe.

Dear Patrick and the Ashworth Africa team,

We have just returned from our sixth safari, all of them organised by you.

You took us to fourteen lodges across five countries; we were never disappointed. Your choices have always lived up to our expectations. Your sense of organisation and detail combined with your taste for beautiful places has always delighted us. Also we always had the feeling of security.

Thank you for all this.

And off on our seventh Safari next year!

Look at this beauty! Our client Jennifer from California was fortunate enough to see a fabled and very rare White Lion on safari in South Africa's Timbavati Game Reserve.

White lions are not albino lions. They are leucistic - a recessive gene mutation makes their fur white.

Consider this: when tyrant-king Henry VIII was in power, this tree was already 1000 years old! Baobabs can live up to 3000 years.

Along with the flat-topped Acacias of East Africa, Baobabs are Africa’s most iconic trees.

Their nicknames include the “upside down tree”, and “cream of tartar tree” (cream of tartar can be made from baobab seed pulp).

It's Testimonial Thursday!

Samuel and Poppy travelled to South Africa in December 2022.

"After 3 years stuck in Hong Kong due to COVID-19 restrictions, we had a pent-up thirst for adventure, so (unfortunately for them) Ashworth Africa had huge expectations to meet. After our 2 weeks trip, we are happy to say that these expectations were met in spades.

Our trip spanned Cape Town, Kruger National Park, and Johannesburg – all of which were coordinated by Patrick Ashworth and his team. Their task was further complicated by the unruly weather, which means we needed to be flexible to fit in key highlights such as a (secret) helicopter flight around Cape Peninsula amidst an already packed schedule. Ashworth Africa’s attention to details and their passion for showing the best of South Africa made our trip a truly unforgettable experience!

We will certainly use their services again, when we visit South Africa a second time!"

Calling all art lovers!

Norval Foundation is a contemporary art museum and sculpture garden, situated in the natural beauty of Cape Town's Constantia Winelands. The gallery has a roster of exhibitions, but viewing pieces from the Norval family's private collection - one of the leading 20th-century South African art collections - is worth the trip alone. The collection includes works by Irma Stern, Sydney Kumalo and Gerard Sekoto.

Shawa Luangwa Camp in Zambia has just 5 elegant safari tents, set on the banks of the Luangwa River.

If you can drag yourself away from the swimming pool, you can enjoy thrilling game drives in electric Land Cruisers, boating safaris on the river and guided bush walks with some of the best guides in Africa.

Having a rough day? This photo of an Aardvark cub may cheer you up.

Aardvark babies are born singly, underground in burrows. After just 2 weeks, the cub starts joining its mother on foraging trips. By 9 weeks old, it will start feeding on the aardvark diet of ants and termites; it will also have grown a hair covering.

Aardvarks ("earth pigs") are found throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Some of the most likely places to spot these shy, nocturnal mammals include the semi-arid regions of South Africa, Botswana and Namibia.

It’s World Gorilla Day! 🦍

Mountain Gorillas can only found in the wild in three countries – Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Rwanda. Although still under huge pressure due to poaching and habitation loss, in some areas their numbers are increasing thanks to eco-tourism. A trek to see the Gorillas in their rainforest habitat can be - for many travellers – an intensely spiritual experience. Drop us a line to learn more!
