Portugal will delay the clocks an hour early Sunday morning 31st Oct 21), starting winter time, according to the indication of the Lisbon Astronomical Observatory (OAL).

At dawn of Sunday (October 31th) in mainland Portugal and the Autonomous Region of Madeira, at 02:00 pm clocks should be delayed by 60 minutes to 01:00. pm.

In the Azores Autonomous Region, change will be made at 01:00 am Sunday morning, moving to 00:00. pm.
Legal time will then change again on March 27, 2022, marking the change to the summer regime.

The current regime for changing the hour is regulated by a 2000 Community law, which provides that each year clocks will be advance and delayed by one hour on the last Sunday of March and the last Sunday of October, marking the beginning and end of summer time.

Subject “Urgent: Action required on your myRyanair account”

Note the title with a sense of urgency and the wrong email address, plus poor grammar, indications that it is a scam. Emails from RyanAir do not include the letters “mail”. This type of message is typical of these sorts of scams.

If you receive do not reply or click on the yellow tab “Log In” as this could either be a phishing attempt to steal your personal/bank information or insert a virus into your computer – malware.
Simply delete and if you need to check with the airline go to their website.

Please share so others are aware.

BEWARE OF RIP CURRENTS

It will be exactly one year tomorrow, that six persons got caught in a rip current at Castelejo beach, Vila do Bispo in the western Algarve. Of these one was injured and another died.

In September 2011, three died after being caught in a rip current off Sagres.

HOW DO I TO IDENTIFY A RIP CURRENT?

A rip current is a narrow, fast-moving channel of water that starts near the beach and extends offshore through the line of breaking waves.

Spotting a rip current can be difficult, and really needs some practice. But when you go to the beach, start off by staying back from the water. Rip currents are easier to see at an elevated position, like a dune line or beach access, and then look for places where waves aren’t breaking, so flat spots in the line of breaking waves. And then also where there’s maybe foam or sediment in the water being transported away from the beach offshore.

Rip currents can occur anywhere you have breaking waves, like large sandy beaches on the open ocean. But they can also occur where you have hard structures, like jetties, or piers, or even rocks jutting out into the ocean.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF CAUGHT IN ONE?

If you do get caught in a rip current, the best thing you can do is stay calm. It’s not going to pull you underwater, it’s just going to pull you away from shore. Call and wave for help. You want to float, and you don’t want to swim back to shore against the rip current because it will just tire you out. You want to swim out of the rip, parallel to shore, along the beach and then follow breaking waves back to shore at an angle.

The west coast tends to be more hazardous due to the powerful Atlantic Ocean. Surfers and wind-surfers like this coast for its conditions and near-perfect waves, but obviously the wilder water presents a greater risk. Extra caution should be used if you plan on swimming or participating in water sports on the west coast. It is important to monitor weather warnings in these areas.

PHISHING EMAILS - BEWARE

Beware these sorts of scams. They are phishing attacks trying to obtain details of your bank account. This was one received today in the Algarve from a John Hamer, which is a scam – note the poor grammar.

“Dear Sir
My name is John Hamer, a partner and a compensation lawyer at Walker Morris LLP, a UK based law firm.

I will like to use this opportunity to bring to your notice that there is an unclaimed “Excess Marginal Return Capital Profit (EMRCP) with an Investment Company here in the United Kingdom”
insured with a top Life Insurance Company , the policy holder was one of my client Late Eng. Lindsey, a national of your country who worked with an Energy Company in Europe and had passed away without a WILL as He was single at the time of death.

Therefore, I am asking for your consent to be in partnership with me for the claim of this policy in view of the fact that you share the same last name with the deceased holder, because of the law in UK on such claims, i am not permitted to file for this claim without presenting a living benefactor and for this reason i am contacting you to seek for your consent in presenting you as the living benefactor to the late Brian to receive the funds.

This claim will be filed and processed in a legitimate manner that will protect you and myself from the breach of the law.

Your earliest response through my direct and secured email would be highly appreciated for further discussion. I shall disclose other details to the claim as soon as I receive your prompt response.
