Automation has the potential to exponentially increase efficiency, profitability, and safety in the logistics and manufacturing sectors. So far, the lack of a robust, yet flexible navigation technology has limited the scope and scale of automation in material handling operations.

Furthermore, the AMR manufacturing sector is extremely competitive. Most of its players rely on navigation technologies like 2D LiDAR SLAM or magnetic line following: proven in the field but limited in performance.
To gain a competitive advantage, many AMR manufacturers are looking into new technologies; but often they lack the resources, time, expertise and talent to develop them.

A Swiss 3D Visual Autonomy provider introduces off-the-shelf prototyping solution for AMR manufacturers.

Universal Robots, the Danish collaborative robot company, has reported Q4 revenue of $85 million, bringing 2022 annual revenue to $326 million, up 5 percent on 2021.

On a constant currency basis, growth over the year was 12 percent.

Kim Andreasen, Universal Robots’ chief financial officer, says: “We are proud to have continued to grow our business despite facing a difficult macroeconomic environment in 2022.

“We focused on those things we are able to control, and we overcame supply chain challenges to report our highest annual revenue to date.”

The demand for automation in Europe slowed in 2022 following the start of the war in Ukraine. Universal Robots’ results have also been impacted by the change in exchange rates, which created an additional headwind to growth.

The robot performs maintenance 5x faster than humans, and makes use of various attachments to perform different tasks, including refinishing blades with RELEST coatings from AkzoNobel.

The robot is able to perform maintenance and repair for Level 1-3 Leading Edge Erosion (LEE), proactively addressing erosion in a cost-effective manner and halting progression to Level 4-5 erosion.

The robot was unveiled in Riga, Latvia last week – the world’s first factory demonstration of such a repair robot.

Wind turbine maintenance and repair market was valued at $36.27 billion in 2022, and is expected to grow to $63.82 billion by 2029. Maintenance and repair is slow and costly, as it is usually performed by manual rope access technicians.

Aerones has demonstrated for what it claims is the “first robot that offers full-service leading edge wind turbine blade maintenance and repair”. The robot performs maintenance 5x faster than human…

According to TrendForce research, the global smart manufacturing market will reach US$620 billion by 2026. Among the new technologies used in the burgeoning smart factory market, machine vision has proven a popular choice, enabling new technologies like vision-guided robots (VGRs) that make production lines more flexible, elastic and efficient. The recommended option for VGRs is the Cincoze Rugged Computing - DIAMOND product line DS-1300 series. The DS-1300 is a workstation performance and PCIe expandable embedded computer with extreme processing capabilities, dual PCI/PCIe expansion slots, and industrial-grade protections. Since its launch, it has been widely used in VGRs for material picking, product assembly, machine operation, welding and stacking.

Forvia, an automotive technology company, says it has increased its logistics productivity, strengthened stability of production processes and decreased safety risks with a fleet of robots from Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR).

The return of investment from the 14 autonomous mobile robots (AMR) working in the Faurecia Clean Mobility plant in Písek, Czech Republic, was less than two years.

Seven of Forvia’s heavy duty MiR robots, mainly MiR600s, work in finished goods, bringing empty pallets to the assembly lines and picking up full pallets to transport to the logistics area. The second area, where MiR250 robots operate, moves components from the warehouse to assembly lines. The robots in the plant work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, covering all three operation shifts.

Nortura is a major supplier to the Norwegian grocery market, as well as to hotels and restaurants. The company’s 31 production units process 350,000 tons of meat and eggs each year.

In 2015, Nortura began using 3 collaborative robot (cobot) palletizers outfitted with Universal Robots’ UR10 cobots in its Sogndal factory. This robotic palletizing system used an early version of what would become Rocketfarm’s Pally palletizing software. Rocketfarm is a Norwegian software company.

Nortura, a Norwegian food producer, uses Rocketfarm’s digital twin tech to upgrade its palletizing operations.
