One of the important sites at Arlington National Cemetery is the Women’s Military Memorial. We will pass by this memorial on our February 23 Black History Tour in the cemetery. Women in the military: if you serve or know a woman who served, even if they have passed on, please look into registration at the Women’s Military Memorial. According to their website, “Three million women have served in or with the Armed Forces since the American Revolution. By contributing names and information to our Register, you can help us record and preserve stories that will otherwise be lost to history and unknown to future generations.” This is the only historical repository documenting all military women’s service. https://womensmemorial.org

The Military Women's Memorial is a one-of-a kind tribute to America's Servicewomen, past and present. The Memorial features an education center, interactive exhibits, and a world-class collection of military women's stories.

As the year comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on all the moments that shaped this year’s journey—both the joys and the challenges. 2024 brought DC Tours and Events incredible opportunities, from guiding hundreds of eighth graders through the wonders of DC to sharing stories on walking tours in the Shaw neighborhood. From family reunion tours to moonlit adventures for corporate groups. And the publishing of my book, 111 Places in Black Culture in Washington DC That You Must Not Miss was pivotal in my life. And on the event side, I had the privilege of managing events that brought people together.

Through my company Capital Gift Baskets, I created gifts that brought joy and connection to a wonderfully diverse group of clients—everyone from the Washington Wizards and the CIA to the Coalition for the Homeless.

But this year was also one of deep personal loss. I said goodbye to my beloved mother and older brother, who now shine as stars in the sky. Their love and guidance remain with me, inspiring me to keep moving forward.

I’m grateful for every moment, every connection, and every person who made this year meaningful. As we step into the new year, I’m wishing each of you success, happiness, and the strength to embrace all that 2025 has to offer. ♥️

🌟 I was honored on Friday Dec. 27 to join Bremante Bryant, host of the Insight segment on the award-winning Daily Drum show (WHUR 96.3FM and SiriusXM 141), alongside the esteemed Pastor Emeritus, the Reverend Dr. Willie Wilson of Union Temple Baptist Church in Southeast DC.

We had a meaningful conversation about Kwanzaa and its powerful principles, as well as my book, 111 Places in Black Culture in Washington, DC That You Must Not Miss. It was an incredible opportunity to highlight the rich history and culture that make DC so unique.

A huge thank-you to the Daily Drum team for creating such a wonderful platform to share and connect. If you missed the show, you can watch the replay on YouTube.

Here’s to celebrating the spirit of Kwanzaa and embracing creativity, unity, and purpose as we step into the new year!
