Andy Barber: The Early Warning Network

A Tropical Cyclone Advice was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology this afternoon for the tropical low deepening in the Coral Sea. The system is expected to track in a south-westward direction towards the northern Queensland coast tomorrow while deepening over the next 24 hours. As a result heavy rainfall and gusty winds could be expected for parts of the Peninsula Coast, Cooktown Coast, Cairns Coast and Townsville Coasts.

Wind gusts to 35 knots (64kmh) could be expected along exposed coasts during the day and into the evening. Rainfall between 50mm-90mm could be received tomorrow, especially for extreme coastal regions of northern Queensland.

The majority of the state will be under the influence of cooler southwesterly winds with the Brisbane CBD expected to reach a maximum of 28°. Isolated onshore showers are expected about the southern coast with mostly cloudy conditions. Temperatures are expected to be warm for parts of the Central West, Warrego and Maranoa, and Channel Country, expecting to reach between 34°-38°.

APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR FESTIVAL PERFORMERS!
The floor is open for performers of all genres, skills and styles to put their hand up to be part of this year’s Cairns Festival.
Cairns Regional Council is now inviting groups and individuals to apply for consideration to perform at the Esplanade Festival Hub.
In its inaugural appearance in 2012, the Esplanade Festival Hub featured an extensive program of performance and community-based activities. In 2013, the theme for Cairns Festival will be “A celebration of where we live” and all performers are encouraged to make their applications based on this theme.
“Situated on the western events lawn of Cairns Esplanade, The Esplanade Festival Hub will boast a colourful cluster of Reef and Rainforest themed tents that will form beautiful performance spaces to operate throughout the festival,” Mayor Bob Manning said.
“The Esplanade Festival Hub line-up will include an energetic mix of entertainment: individual performances, musical acts, comedians, singers, dancers, acrobats, artists and roving performers, as well as a vibrant children’s program.
Anyone interested in proposing a self-produced event, Festival partnership, new collaboration, or creative element of any kind, can apply online at www.cairnsfestival.com.au
The Esplanade Festival Hub will operate throughout the 2013 Cairns Festival, which runs from Saturday, August 24, to Sunday, September 1.
Cairns Festival is presented by Cairns Regional Council with generous support from event partners and sponsors. For more information, visit the Cairns Festival website.

We've kicked off the ‘Kim Jenkins Renovation Rescue’ - Trinity Beach resident Kim Jenkins became known to the wider community in 2011 when an appeal was launched to raise money for treatment for a rare brain tumour.

MP Warren Enstch “We thought Kim had it beat but unfortunately it’s come back, it’s aggressive and can’t be treated,” Mr Entsch said. “She’s got three beautiful young girls and it’s very, very sad.”

Contact us in the studio on 13 27 10 or at the station on 40 500 800 or Warren Entsch’s office on 4051 2220.

If you're a tradie, landscaper, Architect or can make a cracking cucumber sandwich we'd love you jump on board and help the Jenkins family in their time of need. The Sea Team
