Writing on Location Writing on Location is an international writing workshop taught by Marya Sea Kaminski and Daryle Conners.

Our Writing on Location technique uses place as a trigger for narrative, letting locations serve as inspiration far beyond just setting. The curriculum includes daily excursions to a wide variety of places - some of them famous landmarks, some hidden gems. Once we reach our destination each day we engage in a series of writing exercises that very specifically draw upon our surroundings and the ma

ny facets of place. By the end of the week, you'll have not only traveled, but developed the tools for a productive writing practice that you can take with you anywhere.

Hello Writers!

We are very pleased to announce our Spring WOL workshop in Paris, May 19-24th.

We are looking for writers who are interested in a focused, small-group writing retreat, set in a city known as much for its history as its avant-garde. Paris has played muse to a pantheon of great writers over the centuries and is the perfect setting for learning a daily writing practice that you can take with you anywhere.

The idea is this: Combine travel with creative process and let us be your guides to the real Paris – the Paris we’ve lived in and loved, the Paris that only locals know. We'll share stories, sumptuous meals and daily adventures, whether floating leisurely down the Seine or searching for a hidden treasure in the Clignancourt flea market. We’ll inspire each other by honing our creative practice and courting passionate work while exploring one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

The week's curriculum will include daily excursions to the city's most intriguing places, some of them landmarks, some hidden gems. Once we've reached our destination each day we'll engage in a series of writing exercises that very specifically draw upon our surroundings. We'll take you to our favorite bistros and markets, gardens and cemeteries, lead you down little known streets and through some of the oldest neighborhoods in Paris - all in our quest for destinations that ignite our creativity.

Don't speak French? Don't know your way around the city? Don't worry. We do, and we'll be happy to translate and give you insider tips and guidance on the best places to go and how to get around.

The cost for the 6-day workshop is $950. Included in the workshop will be a Paris orientation session, a daily excursion to a particular neighborhood or site, a group lunch or dinner each day and feedback sessions throughout the week. Not included are your transportation to Paris or your accommodations while there, though we are happy to point you toward the good deals and resources that we have found for flights and hotels/apartments.

If you are interested in applying for this Spring's adventure in Paris, please get in touch soon as there is limited space available. We'll follow up with an interview to get to know you and your goals a bit better before the course. If you are accepted into the course, we ask for a $500 deposit in order to secure your place.

Message us here if you are interested or have any questions!

Hello Writers!

We’ve just spent an exciting week in the seductive seaside city of Barcelona, where our Fall 2013 Writing on Location workshop will be held from October 28 – Nov 2.

Barcelona is truly a city built of dreams, and we invite you to pack your notebooks and immerse yourselves in its extraordinary architecture, captivating history and cosmopolitan culture. Together, we will explore the city’s many vibrant neighborhoods, where surprising works of art can be found around nearly every corner. We’ll people watch on the colorful La Rambla, ascend into a museum perched in the clouds, indulge in tantalizing tapas, and most importantly – we will write!

We will write in Gaudi's extravagant dreamscapes and in the shadow of majestic monuments and unexpected antiquities. We'll take you to our favorite literary haunts and outdoor markets and lead you down the narrow alleys of the Barrio Gotic - all in our quest for destinations that ignite our imaginations. Barcelona has long been a muse to some of the world’s most innovative artists and writers, from Picasso to Genet to Orwell to Miro. As we meander through this Catalan jewel, we’ll walk in their footsteps and find inspiration in its powerful creative spirit.

Sound alluring? Message us with questions or to sign up to join us in Barcelona for a Catalonian writing adventure this fall!

Our summer WOL workshop will take place from July 22 - 27th in Berlin and we are currently accepting applications from writers who would benefit from a focused-small group writing retreat in an international setting.

From posh to punk, we'll explore both Berlin's grand boulevards and dark alleyways (adorned with some of the best street art in the world). We'll have Checkpoint Charlie and the Brandenberg Gate as our muse and we'll let Berlin's famous avant-garde theater and Bauhaus architecture turn our imaginations over and give them a fresh start. We'll share stories, sumptuous meals and daily adventures, whether picnicking in the Gruenweld Forest or browsing the stalls in the Mauer Park flea market.

Let's investigate this inspiring city, with its dramatic history, its unorthodox character and its ongoing, perpetual transformation. Let's uncover its scars and its beauty, its artists and its angels, and then let's write the stories that it evokes.

The cost for the workshop is $950. Included is an orientation session to Berlin, daily instruction, feedback and excursions to select writing destinations and a group meal each day in some of Berlin's tastiest spots. Not included are your transportation to Berlin or your accommodations and transportation while there, though we are very happy to point you toward the good deals and resources that we have found for flights and hotels/apartments.
