Emily you inspire so many people. Thanks for sharing.
We asked NAMI Lowcountry member and Ending the Silence Representative, Emily Vairo, what recovery means to her and this is what she said:
“Recovery to me, is an ongoing process. I will never be “recovered”. Bipolar Disorder is a life-long illness and while there is no cure, there are plenty of treatment options. I can’t control everything that happens in my life, but I can control how I react and respond to the situations that I have to handle. I am mentally ill, AND I am mentally strong. I know what I am capable of. I know that my path ahead will most likely not look linear, rather more like mountains and valleys. My goal is to minimize the length and extremity of my manic and depressive episodes. With the help of my incredible family and friends, the guidance from medical professionals, the support of NAMI, and my strength within, I have hope for my future.”
