🌴 Let's talk about MIAMI for a moment. Our post-cruise flight was postponed by a day, and let me tell you there is no better place to be "stuck in" due to a canceled flight! I highly recommend planning at least 2 days pre- or post-cruise departing from Miami or Fort Lauderdale. Here's everything we got up to in just one day:

💃 Bayside Marketplace: A lively waterfront spot with shops, restaurants, and cafés. Perfect for a bite with Biscayne Bay views or even for some al-fresco salsa dancing!

🚌 Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour: Short on time? This is the best way to see Miami’s iconic neighborhoods, from Little Havana to South Beach! (they even offer day trips to the Everglades!)

🏙️ Downtown Architecture: Miami’s skyline is a feast for the eyes, blending modern skyscrapers with historic gems

🥐 Breakfast at Café Bastille: A Parisian-style café serving up mouth-watering French pastries: the Pistachio croissant and Crème Brulé cube are NEXT LEVEL🏅

⛱️ South Beach: Ocean Drive’s Art Deco beauties and palm-lined streets are a vibe you can’t miss

🫶 What a special experience! Today, we visited a local school in Ocho Rios. We got to see first-hand how the Foundation gives back to the community, supporting education and empowering children.

🤗 I had the privilege of spending time with 2 of the sweetest kiddos on the island. Anna and Mckey, both 5 years old, melted my heart of their big bright smiles and infectious laughter. We read a book, learned about healthy food choices, drew pictures, which turned into paper airplanes, and shared the best hugs. Oy, they give the best hugs! 🥹🤗

🙏 This experience was truly humbling - those kiddos' curiosity and genuine joy reminded me of the simple yet profound impact we can have on each other's lives.

🪖Today, on the 80th anniversary of DDay, I remember our visit to where it all happened.

Operation Overlord, as it was codenamed by British, American, Canadians, and French forces, was the largest invasion in human history. The numbers speak for themselves: 156,000 troops, nearly 7,000 sea and amphibious vessels, and 11,590 aircrafts. The invasion was strategically spread across five beaches along the coast of Normandy, France, codenamed Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword beach.

On the morning of June 6, 1944, 14,000 Canadian soldiers landed on Juno Beach. Sadly, they suffered 1074 casualties, including those injured, emprisoned, or dead. They courageously fought and made the ultimate sacrifice, leading to the beginning of the end of WWII.

While on a family trip through France, we included a visit to Normandy and the DDay beaches. As a Canadian family, we chose to focus on the Canadian section (Juno Beach). The best way to get the most out of a visit to this historic region is with a knowledgeable tour guide. After a lot of research, I chose Christophe Rault, a local historian and DDay expert.

Christophe took us to Juno Beach, where we learned about the German bunkers which remain there to this day. We also visited the - an excellent museum with exhibits, many of which are suitable for kids. Our boys enjoyed collecting "points" each time they completed various interactive learning modules and got a special poppy pin at the end.

We wrapped up the day with a visit to the coastal village of Arromanche to see Mulberry Harbour. Here, the Allies assembled an artificial port using huge floating platforms towed all the way from England. These were used to unload the massive quantities of supplies and troops required on DDay and the following weeks. The remaining platforms can still be seen today as if floating in place.

Not only was this a first-hand visit to where history was made, but it was also an invaluable educational experience for our whole family. (more on this in the comments)
