How to move to Spain in the next 3 months using the “Digital Nomad Visa”
A thread 🧵
/ Spain's digital nomad visa is now available! Non-EU nationals can now live and work in Spain for up to 5 years with the new remote work visa.
/ The visa was approved in Nov 2022 and is part of Spain's Startup Act, which aims to attract entrepreneurship and bolster the country's tech scene.
/ To apply for the digital nomad visa, you must work remotely for non-Spanish companies and cannot receive more than 20% of your income from Spanish firms.
/ Both self-employed freelancers with multiple clients and remote workers employed by a single company outside of Spain are eligible for the visa.
/ Applicants need to prove they have worked with their clients or company for more than three months before applying and have a contract of employment or demonstrate that their job can be done remotely.
/ They must also prove they are qualified or experienced in their field, with at least 3 years' work experience required in lieu of qualifications.
/ Health insurance is also required, and applicants must have no criminal record in Spain or in the country where they have resided for the five years prior to the application.
/ The digital nomad visa in Spain is initially valid for 12 months and can be renewed for up to 5 years. Remote workers can also apply for a residency card.
/ Spain offers tax benefits for digital nomads working and living in the country under the visa scheme. Remote workers can pay a reduced tax rate of 15% during the first 4 years of their stay.
/ Spain is already a popular destination for remote workers due to its internet speeds, low cost of living, and warm weather. Valencia was recently voted the best city for expats in the world.
