Tastes of WildLuing with The Wild Cooke
Tastes of WildLuing with The Wild Cooke was full of sustainable foraging, food and natural beauty on Luing.
First guests enjoyed a welcome brew of Fir and Mint herbal tea with Nettle seed, Chestnut and Maple biscuits in the observatory.
We then went on a farm tour with WildLuing founders Jack and Emily. This was a great chance to explore more of the island, learn more about the Luing cattle that graze the island and ask Jack lots of questions about sustainable farming practices.
After this it was back to Wildluing to be welcomed by Lucy with Heather biscuits with flowering Currant icing and a tipple of Nettle cordial, tonic with optional Peony vermouth.
We went for a mid morning foraging walk around WildLuing including the shoreline. Then it was on to lunch! Kitty and Lucy had created a homemade lunch including local meats from Great Glen Charcuterie and a fabulous Gluten free Chocolate cake filled with Apricot jam and Meadowsweet infused whipped cream, decorated with Mirabelle plums and Calendula flowers.
After that cracking lunch guests had time to relax in their WildSuites, go for a wild dip or explore the island more in their own time.
Later that afternoon guests could make their own herbal tea blend using foraged ingredients. Lucy led a ‘Drink like a Forager’ workshop where guests could sample a variety of concoctions.
This was with the addition of the wonderful Mary-Ann providing us with an evening of Harp playing and Gaelic singing including a song about Cuan on Luing - so particularly special to us.
The evening came and the local produce feast began at our long Viking-esque communal table with candles lit and local flowers lining the tables. The feast included locally caught Langoustines, Roast Luing Beef, Wild Garlic Salsa Verde, WildLuing Cranachan and local cheese from Isle of Mull Cheese and biscuits.
The evening was finished with a tipple from Jura Whisky and Tobermory Distillery for guests before they returned to their WildSuites.

Wanting a nice day trip whilst staying with us at WildLuing? How about popping across to Easdale island. With a short drive or bus ride across neighbouring Seil you then reach the passenger ferry to Easdale. This passenger ferry is a brief few minutes crossing with a great crew 😊 Easdale is one of the Slate islands along with Luing and Seil. It has evidence of the now disused slate quarries and also the whitewashed cottages quarry workers and their families once lived in. Now there is a thriving small population on Easdale and they also host the annual World Stone Skimming Championships every September. Once you arrive you can enjoy a circular walk around, the island, hike up to the only peak to reach breathtaking views across the water, sit and have a picnic or take a swim in one of the many old quarries - the waters are so clear! There is also the Easdale Island Folk Museum, Siabann Eisdeal the fantastic little shop where Bethan creates and sells homemade soaps and of course the fabulous The Puffer. The Puffer Bar is a great place on the island to stop for lunch at their cafe or for a drink in the pub area in the evenings. They serve local seafood and cakes made freshly onsite. In a series of posts over the next few weeks, we will be giving you a bit of an insight into each of our luxury WildSuites to help you choose your WildSuite when booking. There are a total of 8 WildSuites. All our WidSuites are named after smaller West Coast Scottish local islands. This WlidSuite is Sula. The first WildSuite next to the observatory on the North side. This has a Super King bed, en-suite shower facilities and a roll top bath in the main WildSuite area. This WildSuite is also dog friendly. All our WildSuites come equipped with domestic amenities such as hairdryer, a fully fitted kitchenette including oven, fridge and hob, fire pit on a small private patio, outdoor seating, Highland Soap Company toiletries, fresh linen, free parking and WI- FI.
