So, we’ll be up early to track that wildlife over hills and savannahs, looking for the big predators but also some of the other 90 species of mammals filling this exciting ecosystem.
The reserve is also home to the Great Migration (July – October), when hordes of gazelle, wildebeest and zebra by the tens of thousands cross over the Mara River into the park on their yearly quest for taller, fresher grasses on which to feed.
We’ll take a picnic lunch at the Mara River, within sight of hippos and crocodiles, and if during the migration season, splendid views of the invading herds crossing into the park, in a sight unmatched anywhere.
Here are some optional activities to enhance your stay at the Mara: Enjoy a visit with the local Maasai people in their nearby village, see their homes, learn about their culture, and perhaps purchase some of their colourful jewelry.

We also offer a pre-dawn hot air balloon safari over the park. This is a not-to-be-missed moment on your tour – imagine viewing the Mara come alive with the new day as the wildlife emerges onto the savannah. Your driver/guide can make all the arrangements.

We received a great new review, of which we are very proud! Accompanied by some photo's they took during their trip.

Kenya!

How much we enjoyed it!

On Valentine’s Day we left and got to spend the night in Nairobi in a beautiful tent. And visited Nairobi National Park.

After that we drove onwards to the hot, but oh so beautiful Samburu, in the North. We had a great accommodation and we saw a lot!

After a stop at the equator we drove west, to Lake Nakuru. Very funny to stay in a hotel with only Kenyan people. Where we were the special thing of interest.

In Lake Nakuru we saw many rhino’s, the famous flamingos, a wild dog and a lot more.

And after Lake Nakuru we drove south to the Masai Mara for the finishing part. It was amazing!! We saw many cheetah’s, lions mating, beautiful sceneries, animals everywhere in the fantastic landscape.

On our way back to Nairobi we visited the Karen Blixen house and the giraffe sanctuary.

What a great trip was this! From al those days we made a small impression with the pictures in a photo collage.

Thanks to AffordableAfricaSafaris and Kenya & Beyond Safaris for the unforgettable journey.

Hello Joash

There are some things I would like to share with you about the safari
We really enjoyed Julia’s Lodge. Especially the way it is situated on the riverbanks. The tents are basic. The bed is great. The food was simple but good enough for us
The staff is very, very friendly and helpful. I was very glad we got the landcruiser. The roads on this site of the Mara are much rougher then I remember from previous safari’s, which were in the Mara Triangle.
I was wondering if there is more wildlife on that site of the river?
I wanted to let you know that Paul was a great and safe driver. We had to cross the Talek river several times. He knows very well how to handle the car in all the different situations. We felt very safe with him, as I told you on the phone
Kind regards
Arianne

Dear Arianne,

It was our pleasure to host you and we are looking forward to hosting you again next year.

If you are a bird watcher please take part with our expert ornithologist/driver guide.

Kenya boasts some of the richest bird areas in the world. With a wealth of diverse habitats, often close to each other. It's quite easy to spot over 100 species in one day. Many of the birds are exotic and are generally easily recognizable. Their main habitats include water, open plains, woodlands and farmlands.
Kenya is one of the world's most endowed ornithological destination and a must-visit for amateur and professional ornithologists. The continent's seamless overlapping habitats provide many bird species within short distances. Our bird watching safari itineraries are best suited for birders seeking a slow but detailed tour that gives the best of Kenyan bird life.
In our birding itineraries, we have carefully selected the important biodiversity areas and with a minimum of 2 to 3 night stays in every location, you will have quality time devoted to birding instead of spending long hours on long road transfers.
For many, the trip length doesn't matter so much so long as they can get value for money. All our birding safaris will provide an excellent species count for the bird watcher.
In swampy areas, you are likely to find bright pink Flamingos, Hammer kops, iridescent Kingfishers, Plovers, Herons, Storks, Geese, Cranes, Jacanas and of course the magnificent African Fish Eagle. In certain places along the coast there are breeding pairs of Osprey as well, while on open savannah plains, where the majority of the big Safaris take place offer excellent bird watching opportunities. The Ground Hornbill, at nearly 110 centimeter tall is one of the largest and most visible; the tall and majestic Secretary bird is also common. Eagles, vultures, and ostrich are also spotted frequently. The smaller plains birds, such as the Ox-peckers, snowy white Egrets, brilliant Sunbirds and bustards are also found in abundance; you can't miss seeing birds on any game drive! Near the woodlands, you'll find yet more species with starlings of every color, Bee-eaters, Drongos, Hornbills, Shrikes, the beautiful Lilac-breasted Roller, Barbets and Guinea Fowl.
