The Climax of the Great Migration is the crossing of the Mara River.

The Birthing of the Wildebeest happens from late January to mid March, when thousands of the females give birth over a period of several weeks. The new-born wildebeest calves adapt almost immediately, standing up minutes after being born and are running with the herd.

A very wet White Browned Coucal in the Arusha National Park. Tanzania is a birding paradise with close to 1100 different species to be seen. This was our 7th trip and over 7 days we saw 79 new species we had never seen before - in addition to the hundreds we had already recorded. Birdwatching and Photography is great in Tanzania! A lioness begins paying homage to the King, asking permission to be allowed to eat the recently killed Cape Buffalo. This photo by Corinne Joseph was taken in the Central Serengeti in Tanzania. We waited over 8 hours for the male lions and three females to converge over the kill. Previous to this, two females took turns eating and were eventually joined by two resting males who had eaten earlier that morning, just after the kill. The female in this photo was the 3rd female, a latecomer.

It was a very successful first safari of the year!
Our guests saw everything, including 43 lions, a lion kill, 8 cheetahs, plus tens of thousands upon thousands of the migrating wildebeests and zebra. It was horizon to horizon across kilometers and kilometers of Savannah.

I am heading to Tanzania in 4 loooong days! I am trying not to be excited so I’ve begun counting the minutes till touchdown in Arusha. We are on a Great Migration safari with Miguu but we will be dropping by the Datoga tribe along the way. They are salt of the earth.
