A Walk through a Hamar Tribe Village
❗The Hamar (also spelled Hamer) are known for their initiation rite, integral to their cultural heritage in Ethiopia, which includes bull-jumping for young men entering adulthood. A pivotal and controversial aspect of this ceremony involves the ritual whipping of women, who willingly participate to express their support and loyalty. This practice brings discussions on cultural preservation and physical harm inflicted to the forefront, challenging us to consider the delicate balance between respecting traditional customs and safeguarding basic human rights.

To me, the piercing gaze of this Hamer woman tells a story of unspoken confidence and resilience. In the Omo Valley, where tradition dictates that their paths are charted by men, her eyes seem to reveal an untamed spirit. This subtle defiance and confidence, which I saw in her eyes and body language, were uniquely memorable among the many encounters of our trip.

In my travels, I strive to maintain an open mind, to observe and understand without judgment. However, there are moments when it becomes incredibly challenging not to let my own biases and preconceptions surface.
My recent journey in Ethiopia was one such experience that pushed me to confront this internal struggle head-on. As I immersed myself in the customs of the Mursi tribe, I couldn't help but feel a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. From the deeply ingrained traditions surrounding marriage to the shocking practices of human mutilation and treating women as commodities to be traded, each encounter served as a stark reminder of the dark side of cultural preservation. While traditions are cherished, it's vital to question where the line blurs between heritage and harm. Where should we start to challenge cultural norms and advocate for human rights? Despite the difficulty, I'm grateful for the opportunity to confront these complexities and continue growing as a traveler and a human being.

🗺📌The Enchanting Town of Riquewihr! 🏰

Just had a delightful day wandering through the picturesque streets of Riquewihr, and I want to share this not so hidden gem with all of you! 🥰 Nestled in the heart of the Alsace region in France, Riquewihr is like a fairytale come to life. 🇫🇷✨

As I strolled through the cobblestone lanes, I couldn't help but be reminded of the charming town from "Beauty and the Beast." The enchanting architecture, half-timbered houses, colorful facades, and charming flower displays all create a magical atmosphere that truly feels straight out of a storybook. 🌹🌺

Riquewihr is renowned for its exquisite wines, and next time we visit I will sure book a wine tasting here. For now, I've only indulge with a glass of Crémant d'Alsace. 🍷🍇

We've recently had a nice day at Chateau de Chillon, said to be the most visited historical building in Switzerland.
This enchanting castle on Lake Geneva has a rich history spanning over almost 1,000 years. The castle is situated on a rocky island, which provided natural protection and strategic positioning for controlling passage from the north to the south of Europe. Its oval shape reflects the contours of the island, measuring approximately 100m in length and 50m in width. The name "Chillon" itself refers to the rocky platform in an ancient language.
Exploring its ancient walls, underground vaults, and enjoying the panoramic lake views was truly captivating. If you're in the Montreux area, make sure to visit this remarkable destination and immerse yourself in its fascinating history.
