While most people are still enjoying their spring break, I’m already back home — and finally found a moment to catch up. This season has been packed with adventures, and I can’t wait to start sharing some of the highlights with you. Stay tuned, there’s lots of inspiration coming your way! 🌍✨

Here’s one obvious hint: think cherry blossoms and a very iconic mountain. 🌸🗻 Any guesses? 😏

🌿 𝐖𝐚𝐝𝐢 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐡𝐮𝐫 – a canyon carved into the Diksam Plateau, where emerald-green pools and dramatic cliffs create one of the island’s most peaceful landscapes.

Most tours include a stop at the bottom of the wadi, often used as a shaded lunch break spot. It’s also a great place to cool off — the water is usually clear and perfect for a quick dip.

📍Accessed from Diksam, usually included in highland tours.
💡Water shoes can be helpful if you plan to bathe — the rocks can be slippery.

🐐 Goats are everywhere in Socotra — from remote beaches and rocky cliffs to the streets of Hadibo, where they casually climb on houses, cars, and anything else they can find. They’re part of daily life on the island and add to its quirky charm.

🌳 But behind the scenes, their impact on the environment is serious: they’re a major threat to the iconic Dragon Blood Tree (Dracaena cinnabari).

🌱 These goats feed on the tree’s seedlings, making it nearly impossible for this already endangered species to regenerate naturally. Since the Dragon Blood Tree grows extremely slowly and only in specific conditions, this grazing pressure puts its future at real risk.

📍 A reminder that even the most ordinary sights can have a complex impact — and that Socotra’s fragile ecosystem needs protection.

🌿 The Dragon’s Blood Tree (Dracaena cinnabari) is one of the most recognizable symbols of Socotra, contributing to its otherworldly landscape. 🌍 Its dense, umbrella-like canopy helps it survive in the island’s arid climate, while its deep red sap—called “dragon’s blood”—has been used for centuries in medicine, dyes, and ancient remedies. 🔴

Though it shares a name with the Dragon Tree of the Canary Islands (Dracaena draco), they’re different species. The Canarian tree grows taller with a more open, branched structure, while Socotra’s version has evolved to maximize shade and water retention in the harsh desert environment.

Socotra – or what a dream come true looks like 🌍✨

Almost 20 years ago, I discovered the existence of this place and told myself that "someday" I would make it here. I didn’t know when, but I knew for sure it would happen. And here I am, after all this time, stepping onto this incredible island – which turned out to be everything I had imagined and even more.

Socotra is the kind of destination where nights are short, comfort is limited, and sometimes you have to push past your own limits. But moments like this, surrounded by landscapes that look like they belong to another planet, leave you speechless and turn into lifelong memories.

From the famous dragon blood trees to the white dunes that seem to collapse into the sea, from spectacular canyons to deserted beaches with unreal blue water – Socotra is a place you don’t just visit, you experience. And if you're drawn to unique places, once you set foot here, a part of you will forever remain on this island. 🌿🏜️🌊

📌 Have you ever heard of Socotra? Would it be on your list?

🌴 When I’m asked what the perfect beach is for me, Princess Diana Beach in Barbuda comes to mind. One day, we had this stretch of white sand all to ourselves, allowing us to fully enjoy its beauty in peace and at our own pace.

🌊 With just a few sun loungers, a small bar, and toilets, the beach is simple yet offers enough to make your visit comfortable. On one occasion, we were lucky to find the bar open and enjoyed a simple but tasty barbecue lunch. 🍹🔥

We visited during the shoulder season, so it’s worth noting that the beach likely wouldn’t be as empty during the peak season, especially if you’re there on a day trip from Antigua.
