One of the best things to come from Trans-America Cycling tours are the friendships that have developed. Today, Chuck and I were visited by Neil, a friend who rode across America a few years back. We had a lot of fun reminiscing. Thanks for stopping by, Neil!

Five years ago, a group of strangers gathered in San Diego, California to begin their cycling tour across the United States. Over the next seven weeks these strangers became a team, then ultimately friends. During the past few days several members of that group gathered for a reunion tour riding from Southern Florida to Key West. Much time was spent reminiscing about their cross-country tour and all members of their team, including those who were not able to be present. I believe all would agree that it was a wonderful experience sharing the road again and making new memories. Cycling the Florida Keys was great, but this cycling tour “wasn’t just about the miles.”

Today, the team riders completed their cross-country adventure by riding from Palatka to St.Augustine, Florida. After pedaling 3,000 miles a celebration was in order. Champagne flowed!

Yesterday, the team rolled into its final overnight town, Palatka, Florida. Along the way there was a sandwich making contest and some pedaling as well. That evening, the team celebrated with a presentation of awards and a video montage of the tour. Fun was had by all!

The team had a great day to ride from Madison to High Springs, Florida. Their work isn’t done yet. It will take two more days of riding to make it to the Atlantic Ocean.

Today the team rode from Tallahassee to Madison, Florida. Early in the day they traveled a canopy rode. Later they pedaled to Greenville, the birthplace of Ray Charles.

As the team riders were leaving DeFuniak Springs, they stopped at Lake DeFuniak before making their way to their overnight motel in Marianna, Florida.

The team had a cold start but it warmed up as the riders rolled into DeFuniak Springs, Florida.

At a support stop, we were visited by former rider, Jim and his wife. It was great catching up with them.

Today, the team rolled into Florida! That was cause for celebration, for sure, but St. Augustine is still seven days away.

Today the team rested in Orange Beach, Alabama. While resting several of the team witnessed a fly-by of the Navy’s Blue Angels.

Today, the wind picked up some, but in general, the team riders had another great day to be on a bicycle. After a short ride they pedaled into the state of Alabama, then they continued on to Dauphine Island where they boarded a ferry that carried them across Mobile bay. After riding through Gulf Shores, the team ended their ride in Orange Beach, Alabama. The Gulf views from the hotel rooms are incredible!

The team members had another good day for riding! They pedaled near Biloxi and ended their ride near the coastal port of Pascagoula, Mississippi.

The team members had a great day to pedal 106 miles. Along the way, the team rolled into the state of Mississippi. They ended their ride in Wiggins!

After a foggy start, the team rode over the Mississippi River. Their ride continued for another 90 miles and ended in Amite, Louisiana.

It isn’t east trying to ride across America. Today start off great, but it ended up being a challenging day. The team members ended their day in New Roads, Louisiana.

It was another cool and windy day of cycling. The team members traveled over 96 miles to arrive at West Bunkie, Louisiana.

Team members rode 1,000 mile from western Texas to the border of Louisiana. Today, they crossed into their fifth state on their ride across America.

A cold front came through this morning which brought heavy rains. Around 11:30 the rain ended and the pedaling began. The sky cleared and the riders had a pleasant afternoon to ride 60 miles through Thicket to Kountze, Texas.

The team members had a humid day, but they also had a beautiful route to ride as they made their way to Cleveland, Texas.

The team rode from La Grange to Navasota, Texas. It was a humid and warm day, but the riders were treated to a multi-mile long antique sale along the route.

After a misty start the team riders managed to squeeze past the traffic gathering to attend Austin’s Grand Prix race. The skies dried later that morning, but the cloud cover remained for most of the day as the riders made their way to La Grange, Texas.

The team had a long day, but they managed just fine as they rode from Fredericksburg to Austin, Texas. They have completed half of the miles needed to cross the continent, so the adventure continues.

After a foggy start, the team members enjoyed their ride through the backroads of central Texas. They ended their rides in Fredericksburg, Texas!

After entering The Texas Hill Country, the team was met with numerous twisting steep climbs. After 80 miles the riders ended their day in Ingram, Texas.
