The upcoming holiday Genna (ገና) ( )
One of Ethiopia's most impressive religious celebrations is Ethiopian Christmas, also known as Genna or Ledet, which is observed on the seventh of January. In addition to church services, Genna is celebrated in rural Ethiopia with horse racing, the game "Yegena Chaweta," which is a popular variation of hockey, and traditional folk dancing.

Lalibela celebrates Genna in vibrant fashion because King Lalibela was born on the same day as Jesus Christ. Many pilgrims travel to Lalibela to take part in this extraordinary festival. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to watch the priests dance while wearing traditional church robes, holding sistrum and prayer sticks, and chanting the birth-hymns of Jesus.

Ethiopian Christmas, the joy of giving and sharing, extends beyond religious beliefs and spreads the spirit of peace on earth and goodwill to all mankind throughout the world.

One of the Ethiopian Historic City

Harar, which is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is renowned for its vibrant multi-cultural environment, its ancient architecture, its large city walls, and its status as a center of Islam (99 mosques). Harar is also famed for its 2-story, flat roofed brown stone or whitewashed houses, and its exquisite handicrafts such as woven textiles, baskets, silverware, and beautifully bound books. Often called the “Timbuktu of East Africa,” the walled city is said to be the 4th holiest city for Islam, after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem.

The Hyena Man who tosses meat, offal and bones to hyenas descending from the surrounding hills is one of Harar’s most fascinating attractions. The Hyena men chant hypnotically and feed the hyenas by hand and mouth, and it’s quite astonishing that the hyenas don’t bite them

REGION OF

Apart from being the land of the Gada Tradition, the region of is known for its traditional deep wells, which are the main source of water for livestock and households during dry and drought seasons. These wells are known as "singing wells" or Tula. When the people draw water, they form long lines on the ladder and sing, as the vessels of water are passed from person to person until it reaches the last person waiting on earth. Traditional wells have protected people and livestock for generations. The Tula system has been in use for over 500 years. These are the main sources of water for rangelands in southern Ethiopia. Singing Wells are symbolically associated with human and livestock fertility, lineage continuity, social identity, and peace in Borena.

El Sod, whose name means 'house of salt' in the local language, is a village 90 kilometers from Yabero, the capital of the Borena zone in southern Ethiopia. It sits on the rim of an extinct 1.8 km-diameter volcano with a salt lake in the crater. For centuries, people have dived into the lake to collect salt and sell it across Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya. They break the bottom of the lake with long wooden poles or sticks. They then dive along the shallow waters, collecting salt-laden black mud and bringing it back to shore. There are three types of salt in lakes. Black salt for animals, white salt for humans, and high-priced crystals. The harvest of salt depends on the season, but the best time to harvest salt is at the end of the rainy season, that is, December and January.

ARBAMINCH

Speaking the Omotic language, the Dorze live mainly in their traditional mountainous homeland around Chencha. Once warriors, the Dorze people are famous for their colorful cotton fabrics like togas. They grow grains, vegetables, fruits and to***co.

The villages of Dorze are classic examples of simple yet beautiful architecture. Their tall honeycomb or elephant-shaped houses are unique in the region. These majestic and whimsical Dorze houses are up to 12 meters high, built entirely of bamboo and have vaulted ceiling walls that are roofed with fake banana leaves, known locally as Enset.

The 26 km drive from Arba Minch, a base for visiting the villages of Dorze, is beautiful and has various areas of vegetation within a short distance.

Happy Irrecha- Thanksgiving ritual!
Irrecha, Thanksgiving ritual of the Oromo, is a very exciting and vibrant ritual practice mainly performed next to a river or other body of water. A concept of rain, peace, and fertility permeates Irrecha. The ritual is performed in September at the end of the rainy season, when the dark days of the rainy season give way to the bright season. Participants march in a long, leisurely procession to the river bank, led by prominent traditional leaders including Aba Gadas and Hadha Sinqes wearing colorful costumes and carrying bunches of lovely grasses and flowers in their hands.
The grandest and most vibrant Irrecha celebration is held at Lake Hora in Bishoftu, which is 45 kilometers from Addis Abeba, in the aftermath of the Irrecha festival held at the capital known as Hora Finfinnee.

ETHIOPIAN WOLF

The Ethiopian wolf (Canis simensis) is a canine native to the Ethiopian Highlands. In southeastern Ethiopia, it is also known as the Horse jackal. Unlike most large canids, which are widespread, generalist feeders, the Ethiopian wolf is a highly specialized feeder of Afroalpine rodents with very specific habitat requirements. It is one of the world's rarest canids, and Africa's most endangered carnivore.

Thirteen Months of .

The renowned slogan "Thirteen Months of Sunshine" was created by Habteselassie Tafesse, who is widely known as the Father of Ethiopian tourism. He was inspired by the distinctiveness of the Ethiopian calendar and the country's pleasant climate. The Ethiopian calendar features 13 months total, with 12 months of 30 days each and the final month, Pagume, having 5 days (a 6th in leap years). Even during the rainy season, the sun shines for 13 months to salute both Ethiopians and visitors alike. For over half a century, the catchphrase "13 Months of Sunshine" has been a household name.
