Many thanks to Dr. Sloan Hilabrand, Dr. Damien Mulvany, Denver Developer Paul Tamburello along with two Stephanie's, another doctor and the Asterillo Surf team who provided free medical and dental services to the community of Chacocente. They set up shop at the LCI/Nezua beach house in the Rio Escalante-Chacocente Wildlife Refuge. Many teeth were pulled, medical treatments given as well as a lesson on how to brush teeth! They all had an amazing time playing soccer and educating the community on Health! Thanks also to the organizer, IF Adventures, a 501c3 - Empowering Communities Through Sports and Education.

As part of their environmental program, Nezua and LCI have an ongoing program to rejuvenate the Rio Escalante-Chacocente Wildlife Refuge. Last year we planted over 7,000 trees and donated another 1,500 saplings to the ministry of the environment (MARENA) to be planted in other areas needing reforestation.

Chacocente is the 7th most important sea turtle mass nesting beach in the world. We have the privilege of caring for it and the turtles that visit. Each year Nicaragua's Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (MARENA), Nezua, LCI, and volunteers including school children clean up the beach in anticipation of the arriving nesting turtles. These pictures show the elimination of accumulated drift wood from the early season rainstorms.

Excellent news!!!

Vice President Rosario Murillo has announced that the government will soon begin the construction of the long awaited Costanera! Details will be released in the next few days, but the announcement said that the road will be completed from the border with Costa Rica all the way north to Pochomil.

This is fantastic news for Nicaragua's tourism sector in general, and specifically for Nezua. The road will pass right behind or around the Nezua project, as well as bring us closer to the Costa Esmeralda Airport and improve access from Managua.

El objetivo es unir las playas que hay desde la frontera sur hasta Pochomil.

The games were held in Popoyo (just South of Nezua’s location) for the spectacular and consistent surf conditions, and the waves did not disappoint with overhead to double overhead conditions!

“Eight days ago we arrived to Nicaragua as strangers, and today we are all leaving as Nicaraguan ambassadors,” said Fernando Aguerre, the President of the ISA. “We thought there would be good waves here and, instead, there were amazing waves. We thought there was going to be good organization, but it was great. We thought that it was going to be a competitive tournament and it was unbelievably tight until the very late minute of the very last heat, so thanks to all the competitors! This event is tattooed in our hearts. We didn’t know what would happen in Nicaragua and now we leave surprised and forever indebted.”
