I’m a proud Newfoundland girl with a distinctive affliction: a weakness for unique jewellery and an enormous case of wanderlust. I’ve been combining the two since 2008 when my “accidental business” Spicy Cat Designs was born out of the sparks of an epic trip to Italy where inspiration met design. The Story: I have always been enticed by craft and design, but it wasn’t until 2008 that I decided to
bring my travel influences together and funnel it into jewellery design. The result was a collection of unique earrings, necklaces, pendants, bracelets and rings, most using Murano glass -an astonishingly vibrant coloured glass with silver foil warped inside. Each piece is handmade, many using a single flowing strand of silver wire with a copper core, wrapped and entwined around that special silver foiled Italian glass. I want people to feel cool in my designs…like a cool cat, a hip cat! Being a lover of cats (and having lost a number of beads to swinging paws) and also loving spicy food - the name had to be cool, yet hot! Sooo….spicy spices….hip cats…distinctive designs….Spicy Cat Designs was born. The Designs: I find the unique and most wonderful ideas everywhere; from sculptures in Spain to the hardware store in Conception Bay South - I see forms and design a little bit of everywhere. It could be the bend in a light-fixture, the swirl of cream in a cup of coffee, or the texture of an old picture frame…inspiration is everywhere! The Other side: When I’m not twisting metal, catching a flight or planning my next adventure, I can be found working as a Communication and Social Media PR Maven. Most other times you’ll find me in the garden getting messy and making things grow – or maybe in the kitchen drinking too much coffee and adding hot peppers to something.
