With our drive belt troubles hopefully behind us we had another great day on the lake today. Perfect weather and the boat behaving and steaming well.

Our attendance at the Steam Boat rally has been curtailed as the drive belt has started to disintegrate. It’s a major operation to change involving moving the engine forward and a lot of dismantling. We are hopefully we’ll on the way now to getting it all back together and hopefully will be steaming again tomorrow. The picture shows how much the old belt has worn

Nice day on Windermere today. Some minor jobs done. Then steamed North to Waterhead then back to the marina. Bag of chips and a pint whilst the boiler cooled down

First proper days sail today. Setting off from our new berth in the marina we had plenty of steam and water in the boiler at least to start with. Steamed steadily all day in a changeable wind.

Today was nowhere near as pleasant with drizzle and rain in the marina . But thanks to the excellent SBA boiler inspection scheme we got the boiler through its annual inspection without issue. So we should be good to go now in 2022. The plan is to bring it home this weekend for the winter.

LuLuJo tied up at Fellfoot on Thursday on another wonderful day on the lake. Sunny and hardly any breeze made for great sailing.

For our third outing this year we did 3 trips round Belle Isle as the stiff breeze from the south made it a bit choppy to start with. Nice to see passengers back on the big "steamers" in greater numbers.
LuLuJo behaved herself and we made a steady 5 knots. Back in the marina by 3 then walked into Bowness for ice cream whilst the boiler cooled down.

LuLuJo passed its hydraulic and steam boiler tests on Monday so should soon be leaving its shelter for Windermere. Hopefully we will get some nice weather to make the most of our escape

Having scraped over a rock we thought it sensible to take LuLuJo out of the water to check for any damage. She is now home and the good news is we seem to have escaped any problems.

Great news that we can call in at Windermere Jetty with our boat

FREE Parking for Museum visitors!

From now onwards parking is FREE for people who visit the Museum or use our café.

This also applies to boats which berth on our jetties.

Even more reason to attend our Sunset Summer events on Friday/Saturday this weekend!

Sometimes things work out perfectly and this weekend was one of those rare times. We spent the weekend at Windermere sailing on LuLuJo. The weather was wonderful especially on Saturday. The boiler steamed like a witch and the engine did not miss a beat. We stayed at Broad Leys home of the Windermere motor boat racing club and had a great time. The room was special, the staff( Bev) very helpful and the food and drinks excellent. The location with its view over the lake is magnificent. Looking forward to doing it all again as soon as possible

First steaming of 2019 today was to the new Windermere Jetty. Nice to arrive in style by steamboat and received a nice welcome. Osprey was giving trips at £10 a head. We paid the £4 fee to moor up we thought fair enough. Enjoyed the visit but found the jetty's very high which is a problem for anyone getting into or out of a boat.

On its last steaming of 2018 the safety valve was working ok but blowing off 15lbs light at 135. Checking the safety valve revealed a broken spring. A new spring has been fitted and a service pack and it’s now back on the boat and ready to go. A steam test today to set the valves went easily and the valve blows off fully at exactly 150 psi.

Final checks before we launch again on Windermere. There is lots of varnish to touch up, boiler fittings to check, new gauge glass, new pump packings etc. We should be on the lake in good time for Easter

Trials and tribulations hopefully now sorted

A disappointing week on Windermere with Steam Launch Lulujo Firstly the lack of steamboats . Only seen 4 including ours. Probably because of late release of booking arrangements which meant we missed the chance to register. Secondly because LuLuJo misbehaved and a joint on the hot well worked loose so more water went in the bilges rather than the boiler. The joint was buried under the engine and really
Inaccessible. So a quick 100 mike round trip home to make a special spanner . Dismantle lots of piping and the hand pump and the joint tightened
In 30 seconds. Just 3 hours to dismantle and reassemble. Running fine again this afternoon.

Great day on the lake today. As we steamed out of the marina we met shamrock heading North and followed her North round Belle Isle. We left her to go to her Home at Wray Castle as the North end was pretty choppy so we turned South

First sail of this year today in glorious weather. Managed to get out and in to our new berth without hitting any other boats which is always good. Sorted the boiler feed pump out then everything went well. Box of chips and then ice cream and a pint when we got home. It does not get any better !! But we can always try.

Pleased to say LuLuJo is now back on Windermere again and hopefully will be steaming in the next few days

The weather is finally nice enough to allow some work to the varnish. Its suffered at the front and back where the cover does not protect it whilst we are moored up. A good few coats will be needed.

Yesterday was our last trip out this year on LuLuJo. A still calm autumn day with the lake to ourselves was a real pleasure. The boat steamed well at a steady 5 knots with 135PSI and the water well up the glass.

Getting ready for Windermere. I have loaded 3 bags of welsh steam coal, 2 sacks of kindling, and 2 cans of oil. Eileen has put in a case of wine and the picnic basket. Different priorities and I know who has the right ones!

With a good weather forecast we steamed LuLuJo up yesterday and headed North up Windermere past Belle Isle. We met the steam launch Grayling coming South. Sadly the phone camera was not functioning so this is a picture from last year. We followed her round Belle Isle before we went South for a few miles as it was calmer at that end of the lake. A good day with the boat steaming well , water pumps behaving and warm weather. Finished with the usual ice cream whilst the boiler cooled down so that we could put the cover back on.

Good day out yesterday on Windermere

A successful annual boiler inspection last Friday meant we could have a final trip yesterday with LuLuJo on a great autumn day. It was calm with the sun flitting about lighting up the autumn colours on the trees. We swapped whistles with steam launches Bluebell and Etna which were both in steam. Etna came up alongside to see us so we were able to get some nice photographs.
