Thank you for the wonderful response to the Alaska Cruise. As of today the cabins in my allottment are sold out. Tweny one people are sailing. Each time I add cabins the price is a litle higher.

I love to read. And once I finish a really good book I want to talk about it with others who have read that same book. This is the essence of why Book Clubs are so popular. Once a year we readers gather for our Literary Retreat. This event attracts women from all over the country. That brings different perspectives to their reading of the same book. The Literary Retreat, next year in New Orleans, combines a weekend vacation in a city that is fun to visit, with a comfortable literary experience. First we will be eating great food in New Orleans. Then we have a day of sightseeing the places New Orleans is famous for. Our hotel is right in the French Quarter.

On Saturday we have discussions about six books we have read. Each Literary Salon is led by a different reader. She throws out a comment or question to get the discussion started and the readers take it from there. Jennifer Curtis from Aiken, South Carolina and Jillian Kong-Sivert from Phoenix, AZ are the first two readers to agree to lead discussions. There will be one more since each will lead Literary Salons on two of the books.

Next Spring we go back to Alabama for our biennial Black History Tour. We are staying in Montgomery, AL at the Embassy Suites for three nights. Our group will again be led by local Historian and Tour Guide, Ann Clemons. Our private tour bus will take us to visit historical sights in Montgomery and Birmingham. We visit museums like the Rosa Parks Museum and the Legacy Museum which chronicles the brutal history of lynching in America in a way that you will not forget.

As adults, we can be frustrated that public schools all over the country do not fully provide our children with details of the history of their people in America. History you do not know can easily be repeated. We go to Alabama to teach ourselves about our history, then we are more committed to voting, starting businesses, building equity for our families, completing our education etc.

The dates are June 12 – 15, 2025. Registration opens in August 2024. For now, please save the dates.
