Since 1912, Rebild National Park in Denmark has been holding the largest Fourth of July celebration outside of the United States. My Grandmother was a Danish Immigrant and immigrated during WWI very close to the time of the first Ribild Celebration. It also holds a special place in my heart because when my ex-husband was stationed with the US Army in Germany a few decades ago, every year a tour was available to this event. We never attended but knew many who did.

The Rebild Celebrations start already July 1st with events in Aalborg and Rebild. It all peaks with the tent luncheon and the Rebild Festival on (of course) the 4th of July.

RIP Queen Elizabeth. We will miss you.

All at Cunard are deeply saddened at the news of the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

Her Majesty had a long association with the company dating back to 1938 and included her naming four of its ships. For that Cunard will be forever grateful to The Queen.

Happy Independence Day!

Here’s some Fourth of July trivia, although this article is from 3 years ago. Many decades ago, when we were US Army stationed in Germany, there were annual tours to the celebration in Denmark. Since my dad’s family were some of those Danish immigrants who came to America during WWI, this celebration holds a special place in my heart. I believe most of the celebrations this year were canceled due to COVID-19.

When We were in Alaska, especially Denali Park area, we found it so interesting that the locals and the seasonal workers were more afraid of Moose than they were afraid of bears. Coming from San Diego, we were always worried about bears. And it seemed like tourists thought they could just walk right up to moose and take a picture. But after seeing a few on the side of the road from the safety of our bus and in the river behind our hotel we started to understand. These guys are huge!! And a mommy with a baby can be deadly protective!

In Skagway we took the White Pass Summit Train Excursion. We both loved this tour.
We rode in a vintage rail car as we passed breathtaking scenery: glaciers, gorges, waterfalls and visited historic sites.
