While the Fiji Swims had to be cancelled this year, Shane Gould and Milt Nelms will continue their wonderful work conducting swim clinics as part of their Fiji Communty Drowning Prevention Program. Like most developing countries Fiji has a huge problem with the number of deaths from accidental drowning each year, caused by the very poor standard of swimming skills across the country. Working with the Outrigger Resort and the two nearby villages of Malevu and Korotogo (from which Outrigger draws most of its employees), Shane and Milt will conduct swim clinics for some 800 people in these villages. If anyone would like to donate to support this work and help Shane and Milt continue to help more villages, please email [email protected].

It is with great sadness that we report that the Fiji Swims for 2013 is cancelled. Unforeseen circumstances on Beachcomber Island and a subsequent lack of water safety and paddlers have meant that it is not feasible to hold our wonderful ocean swim event. We thank everyone who registered from USA, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand and Australia - and hope that we will be able to host the 10th anniversary of this wonderful event in 2014.

Exciting News! Texas comes to the Fiji Swims! 1976 Montreal Olympic swimming hero, Jim Montgomery, has registered for the Fiji Swims, and is bring a large group of his friends all the way from Texas! In addition to the 3 gold and 1 bronze medal he took home from Montreal, he was the first man ever to break 50 seconds in the 100m freestyle! Malabar Magic Ocean Swim 2013

Recently renamed in honour of former patron, the late Olympic great and Fiji Swimmer Murray Rose, the Murray Rose’s Malabar Magic Ocean Swim will take place on Sunday 17 February. Its a family friendly, not-for-profit event raising money for Rainbow Club, a great charity which supports children with disabilities to explore their potential through learning to swim. If you havent got plans next Sunday, get registered! You'll be doing yourself and someone else a whole lot of good!

Event goes swimmingly despite treacherous conditions

Well done to everyone who did the Palm Beach to Whale Beach swim on Saturday. The waves caused some problems and others a free ride into the beach. Once again this race shows it is among the best, if not the best race on the east coast of Australia.

IT WAS wet and wild at Sunday's The Big Swim event.
