It is an unusual morning. January 1st I usually sleep in this morning - but not today I am up before sunrise. Up before sunrise on New Years Day - it just doesn't happen. I have never been up before sunrise on this day - and in Denmark sun does not raise until about 8.45 in the morning on this day - ok maybe I have been up before sunrise back when I was 6 but I can't remember that....

I wake up early in the morning and try to take my left hand outside my sleeping back to check the time. What a mistake the second the fresh air hits my bare arm I realize it is cold - it is not just a little cold it is bitterly cold. I give up on time - it is still before sunrise so I definitely don't have to get up yet....

Breakfast today is great it is amazing what fresh bread can do to a breakfast experience. After breakfast it is off to the dessert again - today is serious sand driving the driver are letting lots and lots air out of the tyres. The tyres seem almost flat after the pressure is down to probably only one third of the normal pressure....

The morning starts with a bit of a novelty - a shower. It feels good to have such luxury available to you after three nights of bush camping. The breakfast is not all that great though - the bread is not getting any younger and in the morning there is no soup to help the consistency of the bread you will actually have to try to chew it all by yourself....

I wake up in the morning because of my alarm I actually manage to sleep far enough away from the main camp so I could not hear anything from it. I pack my stuff and get ready to carry it back to the trucks. It is a lot easier this morning when I can actually see what I am doing compared to walking around in the dark with no clue to where I was....

The day starts around sunrise with breakfast and coffee and then a short walk to get us started with the day. The daily routine in camping life starts to become still more familiar and we tend to do the things the same way everyday. Breakfast is pretty early today just after sunrise and after breakfast we start the day with a short walk to get a bit of exorcise. It is a nice walk and not too cold as the sun starts to give a bit of warmth to us all. The dunes got some great colours as we walk past them....

We start the day fairly early with breakfast just around sunrise at a bit before 8 in the morning. Apparently we got a long day with a lot of driving. We are leaving the bus behind - it actually left the day before and we are getting in a convoy of Toyota Land cruisers we got 5 for the passengers and one for the kitchen....

Today is a long day of just driving - there is nothing planned to see for the day we only have to get down south in Libya using the one and only road in this area. This is a good way to see that Libya actually is a pretty wealthy country. The road is in prime condition and considering how little traffic there is in this part of the Sahara you wonder why they actually build a surfaced road on such a long distance....

In the morning we leave Tripoli to go to Sabratha one of the three old cities of the ancient settlements from Phoenicians days. Back then it was just as important as Oea - present days Tripoli. But as time pass on the influence of Sabratha diminished and an earthquake destroyed parts of the city. Other parts ended up in different European museums but despite all this a lot still remain to be seen in the old city of Sabratha....

In the morning I try to go back to the medina again the holiday is over hence it should be coming to live again. But when I get there it is still slow going. The medina in Tripoli does not wake up until 11 in the morning. But I walk in and the first thing I meet is a fairly old man - Saladin....

I start the morning by walking down to the old city in Tripoli and have another look at the medina. I thought it might have come to live this morning. But no it is still the holiday season hence it is pretty empty and all the shops are still closed. I walk along on the Lonely Planet walking tour - and I get lost instantly - but it doesn't really matter it is easy to navigate in Tripoli medina and I just want to see a bit of it not anything in particular....

It is November and the days in Denmark are getting really short. The weather this time of year is dark rainy and windy - it is not a place suitable for humans to live. Hence I wanna go on holiday - now. There are only a few restrictions on my next holiday. It got to be a place with longer days than Denmark, it must be sunshine and the travel time and price of a plan ticket must be reasonable....

The city of Kristianstad was founded by Christian IV in 1614 in response to Swedish raids into eastern Scania. The new city was supposed to be a stronghold so it was heavily fortified with a modern defense around the town. Guns at the basation The town hasn’t actually had a working fortification for a long time but at the north eastern corner of the city you find Konungen bastion which has been restored and give a good impression of what the old fortifications surrounding the entire city used to look like....

The new town obviously needed a church so the residents have somewhere to go for their prayers on the Sunday. The church was designed by a Dutch architect and you can see it is in Dutch style like so many other of the buildings Christian IV made across Denmark....
