"A trip to the San Luis river over the weekend. We talked about water safety, especially during the rainy season and explored the river's eddies and ecosystem. Then we went for lunch together. It was a lovely day."

World Oceans Day

Here's some ocean GOOD NEWS for your Friday! Sea turtles in the US had an unusually good nesting season in 2012. Not only were nest numbers above average, but so was the hatching success of those eggs. In North Carolina, the season produced over 90,000 sea turtle hatchlings!

Their success was attributed to a mild tropical storm season. It was also thanks to over 1,000 volunteers, federal natural resources agency staff, and private organizations staff who patrol the beaches every year.
