Move Over, Slow Down and do NOT drive distracted

09/02/2021

The 2021 Ride of Silence is just around the corner. This year the Ride of Silence takes place on Wednesday, May 19th at 7:00PM. (always the 3rd Wednesday of May)

How the Ride unfolds for 2021 is still up in the air due to COVID -- last year we did virtual and solo rides and a social media push with the hash tags.

If there's a ride in your area please consider taking part to honor the memory of those killed and injured. If you're more comfortable with solo or virtual due to COVID - do that and tag your rides on FB, Twitter, Instagram - just get the word out.

If there's not a ride in your area, please consider organizing one - it's easy, it's free and doesn't take a whole lot of time.

Nice interview with Alex Pline and Mayor Buckley about the infamous Main Street Bike Lane ;)

Today, we beat what some have deemed a dead horse. We are talking about "the bike lane" in Annapolis; but we are talking to the horse's mouth! Mayor Buckley and Alex Pline join us today to discuss the bike path on Main Street and about biking in general in Annapolis.

The Mayor addresses some concerns, and also lays out some future plans. Please be sure to read the post as we have a link to the actual City Bicycle Master Plan in there!

Bacon - you know you like bacon or at the very least Bacon Ridge. They need some volunteers to build some more trails.

Well, you've been asking for it...
And we all want MORE Bacon...
So dust off your boots, mark your calendars and tell your friends!

Mark your calendar for October 14th for the first day of Bacon Ridge Phase 3 construction! And mark your calendars for every Sunday after that until we are finished!

Also, mark your calendars for Sept 20th! We are having a Bacon Ridge Open House at TrailWerks to discuss Phase 3, check out maps and present our Basics of Natural Surface Trail Construction program to y'all.

We've been granted access to Farm Rd from the Crownsville Hospital property for our trail construction! For the October 14th trail construction day, we'll all be meeting at Farm Rd at Crownsville Hospital to hike or ride in. We'll have people on-site to direct you where to park. We aren't sure how close we'll be able to get with parking as we are still finalizing the details.

We are going to add 10 miles of new trail to the Bacon Ridge trail system! We are also working with the county, state Dept of Health and state DNR to provide THREE additional parking areas in the south, east and north areas of the park. More on that as things develop.

Please be ready to go by 9am! That means show up early! We had 114 people show up to the Phase 2 kickoff day and we expect more for Phase 3! We'll be on-site by 7am if you want to get an early start on the day. We'll have plenty to do if you want to help out!

If you want to bring tools, we can use flat shovels and hard-tined rakes. If you want to purchase these items, they are some of the cheapest tools you can buy!

We have about $6k in our Bacon Ridge fund for Phase 3. We estimate we'll need another $9k for materials, food and drinks for the volunteers. If you can donate large amounts of pressure-treated lumber, cash or drinks, please let us know! Here's the link to the MORE page for Bacon Ridge donations: https://www.more-mtb.org/product/bacon-ridge-project-donation/

Thanks to our sponsors up to this point: Family Bike Shop, SC Logic, Family Veterinary Clinic, Harbor Roofing & Contracting, BikeDr Annapolis/Arnold, QBP, Specialized, MORE and TrailWerks Cyclery!

Sorry, everybody, but I lost. I trained really hard, on my bike and in the woods, for the biggest race of the year. I gave everything I had, down to the last watt of power that was left in my legs, but Grandma Joan was really faster on her Specialized Bicycles Turbo e-bike. Watch this video to see the effort I put and the race...
