If you have written, are writing, or are even considering writing a book, it's CRUCIAL to know the acceptable format of a potential manuscript.. Please don't attempt to do anything impressive to woo over a potential publisher; it will only brand you as an overzealous amateur. In publishing, following the rules makes you exceptional. These are the basic guidelines you should follow to ensure your manuscript is formatted correctly:

- One-inch margins on all sides

- 12-pt font Arial or Times New Roman. Courier is acceptable as well, but just know that you are going to pay more editing, because it will make your manuscript longer.

- Pre-set your indentation in MS Word to indent five spaces in.

- Double space your manuscript. (Disable the feature that adds a space after each paragraph)

- Use a simple header on each page that contains your name, page number, and book title.

- Start each new chapter on a new page. (insert page break feature in MS Word)

Objective statements on a resume just don't carry the weight they did, let's say 10 years ago. A better strategy would be to present a keyword-rich summary at the top of your resume. Reason being? An immediate scan of your resume from top to bottom will either attract or deflect the hiring manager's attention. Since an objective doesn't necessarily speak to the proven skill-sets you bring to the table anyway, you're more likely to score bigger using a summary in lieu of the dated objective.
