The Camps @ Discovery Grove, St. Croix USVI
Summer 2017

Over the course of 10 days, The Camps @ Discovery Grove offer engaging hands on educational and service learning activities. Set on the grounds of a former sugar cane plantation, Discovery Grove provides a unique setting for campers to immerse themselves in local culture and history. St. Croix, an island in the United States Virgin Islands, supports a wonderful location to explore local marine life, plant ecology, the use of medicinal plants and the impact of colonialism on local culture and island life. Campers live and learn with island youth at Discovery Grove, making new friends and seeing themselves as part of a greater global whole. In operation since 2006, The Camps @ Discovery Grove, St. Croix USVI are proud to provide young people from around the world the chance to explore experiential learning adventures. We also offer returning campers the opportunity to work with seasoned guides as CC Leaders, honing their relationship and positive leadership skills as they mentor younger campers.

JUNE 2017: Blue Mountain Explorers Camp
Grades 6th, 7th and 8th (Max 24 Campers)
June 12th - 23rd, 2017

We LOVE Middle Schoolers! Our Blue Mountain Explorers Camp is the perfect opportunity for younger students to experience a safe, nurturing and fun overnight camp experience. Campers connect with local art, music and food as well as volunteer to play games and tutor local island children at the Boys and Girls Club of the VI. Campers view constellations through our telescope on top of the Sugar Mill, search for artifacts, cool off and snorkel at the beach, kayak at night amongst the magic of bioluminescence and come home with a new sense of self and connection to the world around them.

JULY 2017: Caribbean Connections Camp
Grades 8th, 9th, 10th (Max 24 Campers)
July 10th - 21st, 2017

Caribbean Connections Camp is an extension of an experiential education program located at Discovery Grove, St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands. Since 2006, Anne Wachtmeister Ed.M. and Ty McRae have been working with students and teachers from the United States and abroad to learn more about themselves and the impact they have on the world around them. Focused on a global education platform, Caribbean Connections Camp offers young people the opportunity to empower themselves through experiential and service learning activities in a way that is not accessible within the walls of a classroom. Offering campers marine science, ecology, history, culture, language and service learning opportunities to explore and inspire a passion for their future, Caribbean Connections Camp is the camp for Summer Edventure.

August 2017: Island Ecosystems Intensive Camp
Grades 10th, 11th and 12th (Max 14 Campers)
August 1st - 11th, 2017

Have you ever wanted to explore a tropical rainforest and the learn more about the flora and fauna that live under its canopy? How about marine biology? Our Island Ecosystems Intensive Camp offers high school campers an opportunity to go deeper through kayaking, hiking, diving and engaging with local professors and naturalists while working as a team on a project. Academic and service credit may be available for some campers.

Camp Costs: Each camp costs $1000.00 per camper and includes overnight accommodations at Discovery Grove Eco Retreat, all transportation and activities on island as well as 3 meals a day plus plenty of water and nutritious snacks. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt.

Airfare is an additional cost. We work with a travel agent to insure the best airfare possible. When traveling to and from St. Croix, we meet as a group at the airport in Charlotte, NC or Miami, FL and travel together to St. Croix. Average airfare is between $350-$550 round-trip. No passport required but each camper must have a photo ID as well as a parent/guardian signed travel release that will be included in the Application Packet.

Camp Application and Reservation: To receive a Camps @ Discovery Grove Application Packet (camp application, medical/health forms, itineraries and releases) please email us at [email protected]. Applications and a camp deposit of $500 per camper are due no later than March 1st, 2017.

Final camp payment for all camps will be no later than June 1st, 2017. We expect the camps to fill quickly so participants are encouraged to apply early. Campers that apply before October 1st, 2017 will receive $50 off the $1000 camp fee.

Round-trip airfare amount and payment date will be announced in March 2017.
