Badija island is home to special inhabitants – European fallow deer.

Deer roam freely in its forests and meadows, who will meet you as soon as you step off the boat and onto the islet! Red deer have lived on Badija since 1958 when two pairs were brought from Brijuni. There is no official info on exactly how many there are now, but it’s at least ten of different ages.

They are really tame and curious.

We have finally reached sirnica season here in Split – and we think that the new spring season is reason enough to dust off our sweet tooths from the winter to dig into this sacred Easter bread.

For those of you unfamiliar with this delicious Easter bread tradition, sirnica usually consists of eggs, yeast, milk, sugar, flour, butter, lemon and orange zest, and is usually dusted with sugar. It is a treat that could be had with your morning coffee, or eaten at the end of your meal for dessert – and now that we think of it, there is never really a wrong time to enjoy sirnica.

An idea for a day trip from Orebic, the main town in Peljesac peninsula. Buy a ticket for hop on hop off boat from one of the vendors in Orebic. Visit Badija, Vrnik and Korčule. Our best recommendation is Lumbarda town in Korcula and least favourite Badija. Badija does not have a nice beach but has a beautiful Franciscan monastery and deers running around free and very friendly. Korcula town. We went to Korcula town with a passenger ferry that leaves every hour from Orebic town in peak season.
