🚨 Exuma visitors please read and educate yourselves.

Discover the breathtaking beauty of Moriah Cay National Park in Exuma, Bahamas! 🌴 This pristine oasis offers a serene escape with its crystal-clear waters, vibrant marine life, and stunning landscapes. However, it's disheartening to note that many people are not abiding by the park rules, particularly in the designated No Wake Zones. This lack of adherence poses a significant danger to snorkelers, swimmers, kayakers, Hydro Watersports tours and alike. Let's all take this matter seriously and prioritize the safety of everyone by following park regulations and guidelines. Together, we can ensure the preservation of this natural wonder and the well-being of all who enjoy it. 🛥️🏊‍♂️🚤🐠

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RE: Moriah Harbour Cay National Park Rules Effective Until Further Notice

The Moriah Harbour Cay National Park was designated in 2002 and is managed by the Bahamas National Trust. The BNT is a Bahamian non-profit organization mandated by law to preserve and protect the national parks of The Bahamas.

The Western boundary of Moriah Harbour Cay National Park runs from the Cottage on Great Exuma just west of Crab Cay approximately 3.5 nautical miles into Exuma Sound. The Eastern boundary of the park runs from Forbes Hill Beach just east of Pigeon Cay approximately 3 nautical miles to sea. A map of the park boundaries can be found on the Moriah Harbour Cay National Park page on the BNT website www.bnt.bs.

While you are within the boundaries of this beautiful park, please enjoy yourself, but do obey the park rules and regulations. The BNT is in the process of zoning the park for specified uses. Until further notice the following rules and regulations apply to all areas within the park.

No extractive fishing of any kind is allowed including spearfishing, netting, trapping and hook and line. For the safety of people and wildlife, the shallow water flats and mangrove creeks of Moriah Harbour Cay and Man O War Cay, and the reefs and sand banks between Stocking Island and Fowl Cay are no wake zones. Vessels should operate in these areas at no more than 3 knots at all times. While ashore, dogs should be kept on a leash no longer than 6 ft, including the Eastern end of Stocking Island, Fowl Cay, Moriah Harbour Cay, Red Shank Cay, Pigeon Cay, and the Man O War Cay Sand Bar. This is to protect vulnerable bird and reptile species. Music should not be played loudly to avoid disturbing others and wildlife. All Bahamian laws apply within the park boundaries including fisheries regulations, seasons, and environmental health regulations which prohibit the discharge of pollutants.

The park does have amenities for visitors to use. Help us protect fragile reefs and seagrass by using the yellow buoys provided at snorkeling sites or anchoring carefully in sand. Hiking trails, Basil’s Classroom, and cabanas on Stocking Island and Fowl Cay are free for you to use at your own risk. Garbage should be disposed of properly. Your assistance with litter and debris collection is greatly appreciated. Please respect wildlife by leaving animals and plants in their habitat. Please report any sightings of persons conducting illegal activities by contacting our park office at 242-822-8688 by phone or WhatsApp between the hours of 9am-5pm.

💥💥Attention Exuma Secrets followers and Facebook group members. Time for a little Exuma Cays education 🏝️🔍

This goes for most smaller islands not just Exuma Cays.

As courteous visitors to the beautiful outlying islands of Exuma, it's important to keep in mind a few considerations to ensure a pleasant experience for both locals and tourists alike. Let's talk about some common challenges faced on these small out-islands, such as bad roads, limited internet access, common daily or weekly power outages, low water pressure, imported supplies, limited grocery selections, and higher costs.

First and foremost, please be mindful of the condition of the roads. Outlying islands often have infrastructure limitations, and the roads may not be as well-maintained as you're accustomed to. Drive carefully, adhere to speed limits, no drinking and driving and be prepared for bumpy rides. It's crucial to respect the local speed limits to ensure everyone's safety and avoid damaging the already fragile road network.

Another challenge you might encounter is limited internet access. Small out-islands often have less reliable and slower internet connections. While it can be frustrating for those used to constant connectivity, we encourage you to embrace the opportunity to disconnect and immerse yourself in the island's natural beauty. Use this time to truly relax and enjoy the surrounding environment.

Power outages are not uncommon in small out-island communities. These outages may occur due to various reasons such as storms , maintenance work or just because. It's essential to be prepared and have backup plans for activities that require electricity. Consider bringing a flashlight, extra batteries, and any necessary charging devices for your personal electronics.

Additionally, it's important to understand that the outlying islands heavily rely on imported supplies. This means they maybe barges sitting out in the harbor to ensure there is fuel and supplies. The availability of certain products may be limited, and you might find that the grocery selections are not as diverse as what you may be accustomed to. It's advisable to plan ahead and bring any specific items you may need, IF you have dietary restrictions or preferences.

Please keep in mind that the cost of goods on the out-islands may be higher compared to urban areas due to the logistical challenges involved in importing and distributing them. Complaining about the prices or expressing frustration about limited options may not only be unproductive but also disrespectful to the community.

Let's approach these challenges with understanding and appreciation for the efforts made by locals to provide the essentials. Embrace the opportunity to try local produce, fresh seafood, and traditional dishes that highlight the unique flavors of the region. By supporting local businesses and embracing the island's offerings, we can contribute positively to the community and truly immerse ourselves in the Exuma experience.

Remember, these challenges are a part of the unique experience of visiting a remote and less developed destination. Embracing the local way of life, adapting to the circumstances, and appreciating the simplicity of these islands will enhance your trip and allow you to connect more deeply with the community and environment.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Together, let's make our time in Exuma enjoyable for both visitors and locals alike!

Safe travels and enjoy your time in Exuma! 🌴🌊🌞
