🇲🇾 Menara, the tallest tropical tree ever recorded, stands at an impressive 100.8 meters in the rainforests of Sabah, Malaysian Borneo.

Discovered using lidar technology by UK and Malaysian researchers, Menara is a yellow meranti (Shorea faguetiana) and may be the tallest flowering plant globally. High-resolution 3D imaging and aerial photos confirmed its height in January 2019.

Despite its height, Menara's sheltered valley location protects it from wind damage. Weighing 81,500 kilograms, with most of its mass in its trunk, the tree is highly symmetrical and balanced. While other trees may come close, it's unlikely any will significantly surpass Menara due to mechanical constraints like wind. 🌳

THE IMPORTANCE OF DRAGONFLY

A single dragonfly can eat hundreds of mosquitoes a day.

The battle against mosquitoes can feel never-ending, especially during warmer months when these pesky insects are at their peak. Apart from being annoying, mosquitoes pose health risks as carriers of diseases such as Malaria, Dengue, and Zika virus.

With this in mind, it’s no wonder that finding an effective way to eliminate mosquitoes is a priority for many people.

Fortunately, nature provides a simple yet efficient solution: the Dragonflies!

These incredible insects can consume hundreds of mosquitoes each day, offering a sustainable method of mosquito control.

If you're tired of using chemical-laden repellent sprays and seeking a more natural way to get rid of mosquitoes, then this article is for you. By attracting dragonflies to your garden or outdoor space, you can significantly reduce the mosquito population around your home. Read on to discover the steps and tips that will turn your yard into a dragonfly haven and create a mosquito-free environment.

Why Dragonflies Are the Best Mosquito Predators
Dragonflies are not just beautiful to look at; they are also voracious mosquito predators. An adult dragonfly can eat up to hundreds of mosquitoes in a single day. Their predatorial skills are unmatched, making them a key player in controlling mosquito populations naturally.

Attracting dragonflies to your backyard is easier than you might think.

Here’s how you can make your garden inviting for these beneficial insects:

1. Build a Pond

Dragonflies lay their eggs in water, so having a pond or water feature in your garden is crucial. It doesn't have to be a large pond; a small one will do. Ensure it has shallow edges and some aquatic plants to mimic a natural habitat.

2. Add Native Plants

Planting native grasses and blooming plants around your pond will provide perching spots for dragonflies to rest and hunt. Native plants are more likely to attract insects that dragonfly larvae feed on, ensuring they have a food source.

3. Avoid Using Pesticides

Pesticides can be harmful to dragonflies. Avoid using chemical pesticides in your garden to create a safe environment for these insects. Instead, focus on natural pest control methods.

4. Install Flat Rocks

Dragonflies love to bask in the sun, and flat rocks provide the perfect surface for them to do so. Place some flat rocks around your pond area to attract sunbathing dragonflies.

5. Keep Water Clean

Dragonflies need clean water for their larvae to thrive. Ensure your pond's water is clear of pollutants and populated with beneficial creatures like aquatic snails that help keep the water clean.
By following these steps, you’ll be well on your way to attracting dragonflies and reducing your mosquito problem naturally.

Not only will you enjoy a more pleasant outdoor experience, but you'll also enhance your garden's ecosystem.

Cockroach Theory

The cockroach theory for self-development

At a restaurant, a cockroach suddenly flew from somewhere and sat on a lady.

She started screaming out of fear.

With a panic-stricken face and trembling voice, she started jumping, with both her hands desperately trying to get rid of the cockroach.

Her reaction was contagious, as everyone in her group also got panicky.

The lady finally managed to push the cockroach away but ...it landed on another lady in the group.

Now, it was the turn of the other lady in the group to continue the drama.

The waiter rushed forward to their rescue.

In the relay of throwing, the cockroach next fell upon the waiter.

The waiter stood firm, composed himself and observed the behaviour of the cockroach on his shirt.

When he was confident enough, he grabbed it with his fingers and threw it out of the restaurant.

Sipping my coffee and watching the amusement, the antenna of my mind picked up a few thoughts and started wondering, was the cockroach responsible for their histrionic behaviour?

If so, then why was the waiter not disturbed?

He handled it near to perfection, without any chaos.

It is not the cockroach, but the inability of those people to handle the disturbance caused by the cockroach, that disturbed the ladies.

I realized that it is not the shouting of my father or my boss or my wife that disturbs me, but it's my inability to handle the disturbances caused by their shouting that disturbs me.

It's not the traffic jams on the road that disturbs me, but my inability to handle the disturbance caused by the traffic jam that disturbs me.

More than the problem, it's my reaction to the problem that creates chaos in my life.

Lessons learnt from the story:

I understood I should not react in life.

I should always respond.

The women reacted, whereas the waiter responded.

Reactions are always instinctive whereas responses are always well thought of.

A beautiful way to understand LIFE.

The HAPPY person is not because Everything is RIGHT in his Life.

He is HAPPY because his Attitude towards Everything in his Life is Right!

STAY BLESSED ❤️👍

22/06/2023

The discovery of an ancient Maya statue deep within the jungles of Honduras took place in 1885. Many years before European explorers arrived in the New World, the Maya people were already constructing vast cities, studying astrology, and developing a complex written language in the jungles and coastal plains of Mesoamerica. However, when Spanish conquerors arrived in the 1500s, they found the Maya cities abandoned and in ruins.

The question of what happened to the Maya civilization remains a mystery. Between the late 8th and the end of the 9th century, something unknown occurred that shook the Maya civilization to its core. One after another, the Classic cities in the southern lowlands were abandoned, leading to the collapse of Maya civilization in that region by A.D. 900. The reasons behind this enigmatic decline are still unknown.

The Spanish conquest played a significant role in erasing many defining aspects of civilization. Catholic Church agents documented detailed accounts of the Maya, followed by Spanish priests and colonial officials who described the ruins they encountered in Yucatán and Central America. These accounts generated considerable popular interest and brought the Maya to the attention of the world. In the late 19th century, modern scientific archaeology in the Maya region began with the meticulous work of Alfred Maudslay and Teoberto Maler. By the early 20th century, the Peabody Museum was sponsoring excavations at Copán and in the Yucatán Peninsula.

Although archaeological evidence provides some insights into the Mayans, written records and the deciphering of hieroglyphics offer more specific information. However, there are still many unknowns surrounding the Maya civilization. Several theories attempt to explain their decline. Some believe that the Maya had depleted their resources in the surrounding areas to such an extent that they could no longer sustain themselves. Others argue that warfare led to a collapse in trade, military power, and dynastic authority, resulting in chaos. Lastly, some scholars theorize that a catastrophic environmental change, such as drought, led to the downfall of their civilization.
