We dined at the historic mansion of CASA DE ALIAGA

After the founding of Lima on January 18th, 1535, Captain JerĂłnimo de Aliaga y RamĂrez received a colonial house in the elegant area near the house of Francisco Pizarro, the Spanish Conqueror, (today the Government Palace). Ever since then the Aliaga family and their descendants have lived in the house, thus making it the oldest dwelling in the Americas that has been home to the same family for 17 generations.

Rebuilt and reshaped after the earthquakes, and some changes in architectural trends, the mansion has served for almost five centuries to Lima’s history. Its artistic value emerges from the beauty of its interior space, the poetic and evocative of their environments and the original distribution of the rooms.

As you wander through the beautiful rooms of this old mansion one can enjoy both the Colonial and Republican history of the city of Lima.

I had the experience of a lifetime when staying at Hamiltons Tented Camp. The safari runs were amazing (I have posted photos in the past). The food was delicious. The accommodations give “glamping” a new meaning. If you would like to hear more about Africa please reach out. I am happy to share my experiences and photos!

✨Indulge in an unforgettable fine dining experience under the stars on the deck. Surrounded by the serenity of the bush, every bite is enhanced by the magical atmosphere of the African night sky. With candlelight flickering and the sounds of the wilderness nearby, this is dining at its most enchanting—where exceptional cuisine meets nature’s elegance.

The Palomino Islands (Spanish: Islas Palomino), also called Palominos Islets are a group of small islands off the coast of Callao, Peru. Home to a large population of sea lions, Humboldt penguins, and seabirds. I was able to see them in person!

I visited a family owned coffee farm while in Manta, Ecuador. Ecuador has been producing consistently good competition coffee in well managed micro-farms, but most of it goes to Europe, Japan and the USA, where it gets roasted and consumed.

Did you know that Panama hats are made in Ecuador?
The hats are made from toquilla straw, a type of palm that is native to Ecuador. The process of weaving Panama hats is a traditional art that has been passed down through generations.

1. The best strands of toquilla straw are selected and prepared until they are all the same color and thickness.
2. The straw is hand-woven using techniques like Cuenca or Brisa.
3. The hat is then steamed, ironed, and shaped.
4. The quality of the hat is determined by the tightness of the weave.

PART 2 > Panama Canal
Locks at each end lift ships up to Gatun Lake, an artificial fresh water lake 26 meters (85 ft) above sea level, created by damming the Chagres River and Lake Alajuela to reduce the amount of excavation work required for the canal. Locks then lower the ships at the other end. An average of 200 ML (52,000,000 US gal) of fresh water is used in a single passing of a ship.[1] The canal is threatened by low water levels during droughts.

PART 1 > The Panama Canal is an artificial 82-kilometer waterway in Panama that connects the Caribbean Sea with the Pacific Ocean. It cuts across the narrowest point of the Isthmus of Panama, and is a conduit for maritime trade between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

Locks at each end lift ships up to Gatun Lake, an artificial fresh water lake 26 meters (85 ft) above sea level, created by damming the Chagres River and Lake Alajuela to reduce the amount of excavation work required for the canal.
