Part II: The Chieftains, Voice of Ages Concert (7 to 10 pm)
The best of traditional Irish music paired with powerful, contemporary Irish poetry make for an amazing day of culture, and all in Lincoln, Nebraska on Saturday, March 14.
Desmond Egan, celebrated poet and founder of the Gerard Manley Hopkins Literary Festival in Kildare, Ireland will conduct a rare creative writing workshop followed by a reading of his work. He will also be launching a new collection of poetry entitled EPIC. (http://www.gerardmanleyhopkins.org/desmond_egan/) Accompanying the spoken word are local musicians, Anne Sheedy Gardner and Dave Marsh. With flutes and Irish hand drum, they will summon the magic of the Emerald Isle. The workshop and reading are located in The Catalyst (350 Canopy Street, entrance on 7th Street). Registration is required.
Following the experience of poetry and prose comes a night of lively traditional Irish music by The Chieftains with the Voice of Ages Tour stop at The Lied Center for Performing Arts. Winners of six GRAMMY® Awards, The Chieftains are recognized as the best known Irish band in the world and one of the oldest, now into their second 50 years. From the pubs of Ireland to Carnegie Hall, this legendary band provides the perfect climax for local Irish immersion.

Desmond Egan, Irish poet,has a wide range of poetry and prose publications as well as translations and books of prose. His PEACE poem,was translated into hundreds of languages as part of a milennium celebration.
