Just a few minutes from where I live is a memorial, reminding us of Queensland's dark and disgusting history.
At Neerkol, just outside Rockhampton in Central Queensland, this institution, built in 1885, accommodated over 4,000 boys and girls throughout its years of operation. The abuse they endured was horrendous and the effects linger for generations.
To change the future we must understand the past. ☹

Heron Island, Great Barrier Reef, Queensland.
A little touch of paradise. 😎 Who else loves turtles? 🐢 A beautiful snorkelling location, swimming with manta rays, stingrays and small sharks. 🐠🦈

This is how we roll in Central Queensland. 😉🦌
Happy Christmas everyone! 🥳❤🎅🤶

I love the crazy things we see on our travels. Some people have the best sense of humour. 🤣

👣👣👣👣 PRISON BOAB TREE 👣👣👣👣
In the 1800’s Aboriginal people of the West Kimberley were kidnaped by ‘black birders’. They were rounded up, put in chains and taken to Broome to work in the pearl shell industry. Enslaved! This boab tree served as a place to imprison them whilst waiting for a boat from Derby.
Another disgraceful example of the treatment our Indigenous people endured following colonisation. Considering their spiritual significance to the Aboriginal people (see last image) I can barely imagine what they would have been feeling at being forced into one of these trees.
This is one of several boab prison trees found across the Top End.

Passing through Bundaberg, Qld? Well, the famous rum distillery isn't the only adult beverage highlight in town. Check this one out! Gin is their specialty and this pink gin liquor is to die for. Like fairy floss for adults! 💗 Free tastings and really knowledgeable, welcoming staff. Loved it!

How good does this sound? 😀
I've done a little 4WDing the past few years but never anything serious. Nor have I had to get myself or anyone else out of a sticky situation. And... I've never been to Fraser Island. I'm putting this girl's trip on my bucket list. 👍🏞🚘

The Capricorn Caves, 23 kms north of Rockhampton, are one of the largest privately owned cave systems in Australia.
The caves developed due to water erosion in the limestone, which was formed from coral growing in shallow water around volcanic islands thousands of years ago.
There are a few tours to choose from, depending on your ability and level of adventure, and a caravan park with cabins on site. We did the Cathedral Cave tour with our favourite moments being: 1. experiencing the amazing acoustics in the cathedral cave and 2. hearing the buzz of the thumb-sized bent-wing bats. Check out the website link below.

This photo came up in my FB memories today. It was taken 2 years ago at Natures Window in Kalbarri National Park in Western Australia.
I'm still baffled as to how my kid was never as awestruck as I was at the magnificent sights we saw on our 3.5 year lap of Australia. 🙄😂

On this day 3 years ago we were noodling for opals at White Cliffs in the far north west of NSW. It was a bit like landing on the moon!
Aiden really enjoyed visiting the underground house and hotel and was a bit fascinated as to how they were constructed. Another opportunity for natural learning covering history and geology. Who else loves to noodle? 😁

Another stunning day in central Queensland. We were lucky enough to see a tawny frogmouth at one of the ocean lookouts this morning. I've never seen one in the wild before and to be this close felt pretty special.

Flashback to 2017 .....
Of course when visiting Bathurst we had to do the obligatory hot lap of Mt Panorama. Wow, some of those turns are tight and steep but the view from the top of the mountain was fabulous. We certainly didn't break any speed records (unless going really slow counts).

What’s your first post-covid lockdown adventure going to be??? 😁🎉⛺️🚗
This is mine... 👇🏼 The October long weekend, full of camping and music at Biloela, Qld. Freedom to roam our beautiful country again is almost here. Get planning people! 👌 Keep it local and support tourism closest to your own home town first. 🙏🥰

The more you travel the less you realise you actually know. 😜
Traveling is more than sightseeing. It's a way to conquer your fears, become more independent, and keep you open-minded.

Show me your paint jobs! 😁🟪🟦🟩🟧🟥🟨
I’ve seen some amazing paint jobs whilst travelling around the country. Daisy Louise and Dunja Thamm come to mind. 🤗

We’ve been living in our caravan for 7 weeks now, waiting to move into a rental house (which was delayed due to covid issues). We’ve been incredibly lucky to have a friend allow us to park up and connect to power on his property.
Let’s hope the travelling community forgive those small towns and visit them when all this is over. Many rely on tourism dollars for survival. Tasmania will be interesting to watch after the travellers stories I’ve heard from those being abused and kicked out of the state weeks ago. A disgraceful way to treat fellow Australians I say!

My fellow travellers will get this.....
A washing machine that takes 27mins to do 3 loads in one and doesn’t need coins. 😱😱😱

Time for my morning cuppa ☕️ after a long walk 🏃🏽♀️. Social distancing from my ‘neighbours’ of course. 😜🌿
