Stubbs Island Charters Ltd is taking Telegraph Cove Resorts Ltd, Inter Island Launch Ltd. dba Prince of Whales Whale Watching and Alan McGillivray, owner of Prince of Whales, to court over losses suffered due to breach of a lease agreement and a non-disclosure contract.
After 38 years in business in Telegraph Cove, Stubbs Island Whale Watching was notified that the lease was terminated by Gordie Graham of Telegraph Cove Resorts with only 30 days’ notice.
We had been marketing and making plans for our continued operation out of our offices on the boardwalk in Telegraph Cove and were shocked to be informed of the termination. As owners of the business for the past eight seasons, we had been making every effort to bring guests to the Cove for an experience of a lifetime. We were very successful as proven by our six consecutive annual Awards of Excellence from Trip Advisor.
Financially the company was making large annual investments in the marketing of Stubbs Island Charters and Telegraph Cove. We had already spent tens of thousands of dollars of advertising and marketing for the 2019 season and had confirmation of many of our regular commitments for bookings in the upcoming season.
The way that we were kicked out of the premises has left us with no option but to take legal action for the extensive financial losses we have suffered.

No court date is set at this time.

An emotional day for the Stubbs Island team as the MV Lukwa set sail in the sunshine today from for her new home port on the West Coast. And yes Capt. Wayne Garton was on the dock to see her off.

Safe passage, calm seas and memorable wildlife sightings to all who sail on her.

Cool news from The Marine Education & Research Society. We typically see Cosmo on tours in the fall more than during other times in the season, so very cool to discover, thanks to their research that he/she Chunky's calf.

Yes, this is the same whale - Cosmo born to Chunky in 2008. Sharing because of the interest expressed in yesterday's post about how hard it can be to determine the ID of a Humpback. This match of Cosmo shows how much the pigmentation of the tail can change and gives further insight into the skill level and dedication required to "match" Humpbacks. It's great to note your interest in the work needed to study giants! Knowing who they are is essential in everything from life histories to site fidelity; social associations to learning of feeding strategies.

And the team at Stubbs Island Whale Watching Vancouver Island who have also helped so much with sightings of Cosmo.
AND to Alison who made this challenging match and many others.

Always an amazing experience on the Marine Education & Research Society fundraising trip. We are honoured to support local research and education. This video was taken on yesterday's fundraising trip. See the original post for details on this incredible sighting. www.stubbs-island.com

We think you'll find it worth the 3-minutes of listening / watching. This is Inukshuk (BCZ0339) the Humpback Whale vocalizing during an interaction with Pacific White-Sided Dolphins. It is a rarity that we know which whale we are listening to on the hydrophone like this.
After this interaction, he chased after Freckles (BCY0727) displaying competitive group behaviour, head lobbing repeatedly while pursuing her. Yep, it's October and hormones appear to make a shift.
