DID YOU KNOW 💭 “Human newborns are meant to be carried constantly and fed around the clock.” Because.. science. 🔬Human beings are considered CARRY MAMMALS, often described as “continuous contact mammals” 💕 From a brain perspective, we are born very early. Our brains can be considered immature at birth when compared to other mammals. Most other mammals are born at about 80% of adult brain growth but humans are born at less than 50%, with most brain growth happening AFTER birth. Scientists find that due to our larger brains and naturally smaller pelvises, we are born early, so that our heads do not become too big to fit through our mothers narrow pelvises. Essentially, while newborns are out of the mamas body, it makes biological sense to treat them as if they are still ONE with mama. Think kangaroo pouch (also a carry mammal). We also know that humans are carry mammals because human milk is composed of lower fat and protein contents that are metabolized faster than other mammalian milks. Hence, the need to feed babies often, around the clock. From a carry mammal perspective, it is assumed baby is always on mama making it easy and natural for consistent on demand feeding 😍 Knowing this helps to understand from a biological standpoint why babies, newborns especially, are most happy when being held or at the breast. They aren’t being clingy, they are honoring their innate need and biological NORM 👶🏽 📝 Quotes taken from “Breastfeeding Answers Made Simple” written by IBCLC Nancy Mohrbacher. 📸 from todaysparent.com 💛
