Record Setting 125lb Paddlefish Caught in Oklahoma

On April 10, a paddlefish weighing 125 pounds and 7 ounces was caught from the Arkansas River by Aaron Stone of Pawhuska.

Stone finally landed the paddlefish, also called spoonbills, after 40 minutes of reeling and sliding 15 feet down an embankment. When the paddlefish did take off, “all I could do was hang on,” he said. “I’ve never felt anything like that before.”

Stone’s father-in-law, a lifelong paddlefish angler, told him that he had never seen a spoonbill that big and encouraged him to have it weighed.

Man fishes 10 hours with hook in head - UPI.com

"I figured I'd go to urgent care but there was a guy there saying, 'Hey, why don't we cut off the lure and treble hook that's not inside your head.' The other two hooks were just in too deep."

Matsuura said he took two Tylenols for the pain and continued fishing for 10 hours, his two man team finishing the day with a haul 2 oz. heavier than closest rival Chico State University.

The two-man team that took the top prize at a California college fishing championship said one member fished for 10 hours with a hook in his head.
