Spend a long weekend in , an island off of Auckland, which certainly didn’t disappoint. thanks to pristine beach coves, waterfront vineyards, backyard bird watching, and delicious seafood. Guys we can’t get enough of this country. @ Palm Beach Waiheke Island

Spend the day yesterday in Cromwell, which is known for its stone fruit farms. We showed up at a spot called Cheeki Cherries, only to find out cherry picking season was over. Thankfully they let us explore the grounds, cherry ice cream in hand. We also spotted a Swamp Harrier, a type of hawk, and helped scare it out of the orchard, which is covered with nets to protect it from birds and other fruit-nibbling animals.

Happy Valentine’s Day from New Zealand, where we pretty much had to remind everyone it was a holiday (such a departure from the U.S., where we have entire Hallmark card sections dedicated to National Ice Cream Day). Josh pulled together a beautiful picnic at our new favorite spot, Eely Point. They have fantastic public electric grills here (no coals/supplies required) in scenic spots. Such a good idea, eh ? 😉 Also swipe for my most beautiful bouquet to date!

We LOVE those people! 😊
A huge welcome and thank you to Uncle and cousin Austin for visiting us here in New Zealand and putting up with an aggressive amount of attention from two admiring cousins. We are so glad you’ve been here to experience this with us—and witness the cray cray.
Now, who’s up next? 😉

What a day! We visited the South Island’s famous blue pools (crossed by suspension bridge) before trekking to the coast to a tiny town for fishing with fish and chips (or fush and chups, as they say here in NZ). It felt like the end of the earth...and our party almost ran out of gas. This country is wild. And I love it.

Mission Bay, one of Auckland’s popular city beaches. Several people recommended skipping Auckland all together but I couldn’t disagree more! We have loved it here, especially with kids. There are loads of parks, playgrounds and beaches big and small. Also great restaurants and, for those who aren’t traveling with tiny grabby hands, shopping.

Devonport, New Zealand. I forgot the swimsuits but people often swim covered because the sun is so strong. A common expression here (according to our Airbnb’s owner, anyway): slip, slap, slop: slip on a shirt, slap on a hat, slop on some sunscreen.

Getting around London is half of the fun for half pints. While we love London’s Underground, keep in mind that only a quarter of the city’s Tube stations are step free, making them difficult with strollers. Buses, on the other hand, have designated areas for prams. Even if your kids are too old for buggies, we’re willing to bet that riding on the top level of a double decker will be the highlight of the trip. Classic black cabs—many of which are now electric—are also a hit.

London is full of excellent museums, many of which have great kid programs. At the V&A Museum of Childhood you’ll find rooms of doll houses and vintage LEGOs, as well as hands-on activities like arts and crafts. And the Horniman (pictured) is a museum loaded with exhibits—a butterfly sanctuary, hands-on music room, and an animal walk (home to rabbits, lamas and more) that keep Little’s in mind. The grounds also have some of the best views of the city. For more cultural activity ideas in London, see link in profile!

Parks and playgrounds are the backbone of any family trip, and London has dozens worth exploring! Hyde Park is not to be missed: Not only is it home to the Diana Memorial Playground, as well as Serpentine Lake and Kensington Gardens, it’s also near and dear to our hearts. We got engaged here, and have taken both kiddos to explore!

Next up in our Austin With Kids guide: it’s time for dessert! After a long day of exploring, kids deserve a sweet treat. is almost good for you...almost. Owners Anthony and Chad really care about their ingredients, sourcing organic, local, and small batch whenever possible. And flavors like chocolate with sea salt and olive oil and goat cheese, thyme, and honey, lean into adult-approved flavors. For more family friendly restaurants, coffee shops and places for a sweet treat, see the link in profile!
