How Paradise Is Key West Came to Be

I had been visiting Key West for more than 20 years. I loved the laid-back, quirky, fun-loving, magical place I called Paradise. I would visit 4 or 5 times a year. And it was never enough. So much so, that I had to live there!

But, I’m getting ahead of myself. I worked in a very high pressure, male oriented, financial services industry. I had 100+ subordinates and I traveled constantly. Although I loved my job, I hated being away from my loved ones so much. It all came to a head on my Mom’s birthday. I flew home that Thursday evening, got to spend all of an hour and a half celebrating with my family, before I had to leave to pack and fly out the next morning.

On top of that I had a rather miserable boss who loved to yell about any issue (even issues that were being resolved or issues unrelated to me) before you could talk to him about anything. This was his motus operandi for all of his subordinates. The Saturday afternoon following Mom’s birthday (yes, we worked 6 days a week) after a stressful phone call, I decided enough was enough.

So I left! That Saturday was my last day. I resigned on Monday morning. I wanted freedom. Freedom to see my family. Freedom to actually enjoy a birthday party. Freedom to set my own hours. Freedom to be my own boss. Freedom to do what I loved. And Paradise Is Key West was born!
