Exciting news in the world of diving! 🦈 If you have been following us via our stories, then you know that last week we traveled with Peri-Peri Divers to have an inside look at Mozambique’s NEW upcoming dive destination!⁣

About halfway between Tofo Beach and Vilanculos is where you’ll find Praia De Morrungulo, a stunning stretch of palm-fringed coastline, and also the base for Peri-Peri’s newest diving location. We got a first look at all that this incredible new location has to offer! Visitors will enjoy panoramic ocean views from the charming guesthouse, a healthy and hearty array of full-board meals, an off-the-grid African experience that still offers complete comfort, and an absolutely unmatched scuba diving experience.⁣

The reefs that dot this stretch of Indian Ocean offer incredible opportunities to dive in locations that have only seen a handful of visitors before. This is truly an adventurous, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Search for countless rays, sharks, dolphins, eels and enormous schools of pelagic fish as you glide along the unique topography of these stunning dive sites. ⁣

Morrungulo’s location also makes it an ideal multi-day stopover for people traveling between Tofo and Vilanculos who are keen to break up the journey, all the while seeing something completely new and exciting.⁣

Want to learn more and add Morrungulo to your next Mozambique diving holiday? Get in touch now via our website: www.travel2mozambique.com ▫️

Last week we headed out to Morrongulo, Mozambique with Peri Peri Divers to explore Mozambique's newest upcoming dive destination.

For three days we dove on some of the least-visited reefs on Mozambique's coastline, where we were greeted with extraordinary sightings of blacktip reef sharks, leopard sharks, whitetip reef sharks, eagle rays, enormous schools of pelagic fish, moray eels, dolphins, turtles and more.

Want to come see for yourself? Visit us and get in touch!

Today’s Lodge Of The Day is Hotel Cardoso, in bustling Maputo, Mozambique!⁣

Although most travelers picture breezy lodges on secluded white-sand beaches when they imagine Mozambique, Hotel Cardoso is challenging that notion by showing travelers the finer side of this colorful African city for over 100 years.⁣

Hotel Cardoso, which is a Maputo institution, sits regally atop a cliff in an upscale neighborhood of the city, boasting panoramic views of the Maputo Bay and its charming gardens. Considered one of the most iconic and historic buildings in Maputo, this wonderful hotel has hosted a plethora of celebrities, politicians, and travelers since its opening in 1919. However, the decades have had little impact on the hotel, with its upscale rooms, tasteful lounge and bar areas, fine restaurant with epic city views, and state-of-the-art spa and wellness center.⁣

Kick back with a cocktail by the pool and use Hotel Cardoso as your base as while you explore all that colorful Maputo has to offer. Book your stay here by contacting us via our website: www.travel2mozambique.com @ Maputo, Mozambique

“Our Gorongosa: A Park for the People” - a film about Gorongosa National Park - has been chosen to show at the 2020 World Wildlife Day Film Showcase at the United Nations in New York City.

In the film, Dominique Gonçalves, a vibrant Mozambican ecologist who runs the Gorongosa elephant ecology project, shares the myriad ways Gorongosa is redefining the identity and purpose of an African national park. From her own work mitigating human/elephant conflict; to community clubs and school programs that empower girls to avoid teen marriage and pregnancy; to health clinics and nutrition training for expectant mothers and families; Dominique leads viewers on an eye-opening journey that will transform their understanding of what a national park can be.

Fortunately, you don't have to travel all the way to New York City to watch the film - click the National Geographic link on this post to watch the film for free directly on their website.

The Lonely Planet has voted Tofo Beach as the 5th best place in the world to go snorkeling. We believe it!

"The waters off Tofo Beach, in the southern province of Inhambane, are particularly rich in marine biodiversity and most famous for their large whale shark population. It’s one of the few places on the planet where these gentle giants can be found year-round.

Manta rays also grace these waters, along with sea turtles and dolphins. Add in the fact humpback whales stop by between June and October, and you’ll be adding Mozambique to your snorkel bucket list."

From swimming with rays in Australia to spotting whale sharks off the coast of Mozambique, these are the best beaches for snorkelling around the world.

Did you know that Gorongosa National Park is home to the incredible baobab tree? And baobabs are not like any other tree — they are the Tree of Life! ⁣

Baobabs can live to be 3,000 years old, and have provided food, shelter, medicine, and even clothing to people for thousands of years.⁣

These iconic trees can have a girth of 25 meters when they’re fully grown, and can be as tall as 30 meters, making them (along with their unusual shape) a classic image of arid Africa. Their large, oblong fruits boast high levels of vitamin C, and even the leaves of the tree have been used in stews for protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, and copious minerals. Would you try some of the dishes made from the fruit and leaves of the baobab tree?⁣

If not, maybe you’d wear the baobab’s clothing! The baobab tree’s cork-like bark is naturally fire resistant, and is often used for making cloth and rope amongst indigenous communities. ⁣

Come taste the fruits, feel the bark, and see this magnificent tree for yourself in Mozambique! @ Gorongosa National Park

Have you ever heard of Ilha de Moçambique (the Island of Mozambique)? It may just be East Africa’s quintessential hidden gem, and here’s why!

Located off the coast of northern Mozambique, Ilha de Moçambique was the capital of Portuguese East Africa up until 1898, though its history dates all the way back to the 14th century. In the 16th century the Fort São Sebastião was built, and still stands today as one of the oldest original European structures found in the Southern Hemisphere. Walk amongst its canon-lined stone walls, and listen to the crashing waves against the base of the fort’s old chapel, boasting the same walls that were built over 400 years ago.

The sleepy island, which is only 3km long and less than 500 meters wide at its widest point, has a makuti village where most of its residents live. Cobblestone streets are lined with towering fig trees and colorful buildings, where you can wander and take in the smells of freshly cooking local dishes such as matapa, coconut rice, and simmering spicy prawns. The island truly feels as though it’s frozen in time and space. Watch the sun go down across the tops of palm trees as locals swim in the shadows of the island’s great fort.
