Our friend pastor Dave Willis recently spoke with ABC local news channel 6 in Georgia about the situation in Israel and how their community is supporting Israel right now.

It’s been 48 hours since the first attack in the city of Gaza. But the terror 6,000 miles away is hitting home for those here in the CSRA.

It's the holiday season in Israel and the festival of Sukkot has just begun. The streets themselves bear witness to this: from the traditional white attires of the new year celebrations to the enchanting wooden Sukkahs that begin to dot the streets of Israel. Those who have experienced this season in the Holy Land know the unique charm of these symbolic structures.

And the grand finale of the holiday season, Simchat Torah, is on the horizon. Simchat Torah means "the Happiness of the Torah," and it is a global celebration as synagogues culminate their year-long journey of reading through the Hebrew Bible from beginning to end. Once the reading is complete, revelers go out to the street, sing, dance, and rejoice after completing another biblical cycle.

If you happen to be in Israel during this jubilant time, it promises an unforgettable spiritual experience. In case you missed it, you can revisit our insights on Rosh Hashanah at https://bit.ly/3R8FQFi

We had an incredible week in Israel traveling with Dave and Ashley Willis and their amazing group.

They explored the beautiful coast of Israel, visited Caesarea, renewed their marriage vows in Cana, sailed on the Sea of Galilee, and concluded their tour by walking in the footsteps of Jesus in the Old City of Jerusalem!

We want to express our deep gratitude to Dave and Ashley for allowing us to be a part of their journey.

Until next time!

Shavuot, which is celebrated this week in Israel, is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the giving of the Torah to the Israelites at Mount Sinai. This time of year also carries significance to Christians who observe Pentecost, marking the day when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples of Jesus after his ascension.

Both Shavuot and Pentecost celebrate the culmination of a fifty-day season in the spring, after Passover and Easter, respectively. In Israel, Shavuot is observed with great enthusiasm and fervor, with special dishes and family gatherings to celebrate harvest and renewal. Many Jews engage in an all-night study of the Torah and other Jewish texts, and synagogues are filled with worshippers. For many Christians in the Holy Land, it’s a time to reflect on the importance of the Holy Spirit in their lives and to come together as a community to celebrate the gift of faith.

If you are celebrating Shavuot or Pentecost in Israel, there are various ways to mark this important holiday, such as attending a church service, joining the Jewish community in studying the Torah, or enjoying a delicious traditional meal with family and friends. Chag Sameach!

One of the first questions we get when church group leaders contact us about our Holy land pilgrimage experiences is “when is the best time to travel?”

The short answer is that it’s totally up to you. Unless you specifically want to be in Israel for Christmas or Easter, you may want to schedule your trip at a time other than these busy holiday seasons.

One of the most beautiful seasons is right after Easter, for example. Many Christian groups prefer to travel when lower, off-season rates are available – usually November through mid-March (except Christmas). From November to March Israel has cool temperatures and some rain. From June to August temperatures are very warm, and the country is virtually rainless from April through October.

Like other countries on this side of the equator, the Israeli winter offers greetings and salutations. Even in a hot Middle Eastern country like Israel, as the sun goes down during the winter months, so do the temperatures.

Traveling here during winter offers experiences that are exclusive for the season, especially in high altitudes, like Jerusalem, the mountainous north, or Safed.

Read about some of our favorite Israeli winter destinations in our most recent blog post.
