On February 12, 1837, Thomas Moran was born in Bolton, England. His family moved to America when Thomas was 7, which soon ignited the young artist's livelong love affair with the American landscape. In his nearly 70-year artistic career Moran would paint more than 1,500 oil paintings and 800 watercolors, developing a particular fondness for the American west. This was especially true of the Yellowstone region, and his gorgeous renderings of the beauty he encountered there played a role in inspiring Congress to establish the area as the first U.S. National Park in 1872.

Visitors to Osage County can see some of these iconic masterworks in person, including the piece "Grand Canyon" pictured here, at Woolaroc Museum & Wildlife Preserve. Woolaroc is home to a world-class museum of western art and artifacts, including several magnificent paintings by Thomas Moran, Frederic Re*****on, and Charles M. Russell, among many other first-rate artists. You can find Woolaroc's hours, address, and more information on it's incredible collection at https://www.woolaroc.org/

This Super Bowl Sunday, we're celebrating Osage County's one-of-a-kind football history! For nearly a decade beginning in the early 1920s, the Osage County town of Hominy was home to a professional football team known as the Hominy Indians. Founded by a group of Osage men and made up entirely of Native American players, the team enjoyed several incredible achievements, including a 28-game winning streak and beating the New York Giants in 1927, just after they had won that year's NFL Championship! In honor of National Boy Scout Day, we're looking back on the first Boy Scout Troop in America, which was founded right here in Osage County. In 1909, Rev. John F. Mitchell formed a troop in Pawhuska after serving in England as an associate of Robert Baden-Powell, who launched the scouting movement there. Visitors to the The Osage County Historical Society Museum Pawhuska can see the statues honoring these scouting pioneers on the museum's lawn, and will find a window into this unique piece of local history at the Troop 1 exhibit inside. Mabelle Kennedy’s family first came to Oklahoma from Missouri in a covered wagon in 1891. After the trip – which she later described as one long picnic – her family settled near the Osage County line in Ralston. Mabelle married Edmund Kennedy in 1908 and the couple moved to Pawhuska in 1909, where they bought a controlling interest in the National Bank of Commerce.

Mabelle and Edmund’s Pawhuska home was later transformed into an elegant bed and breakfast named in her honor which welcomes guests to this day. When you're looking for a beautiful, relaxing place to hang your hat in Osage County, experience a little bit of this history for yourself with stay at The Mabelle. You can find more info to book your Osage County getaway at this one-of-a-kind B&B at https://bit.ly/MabelleVTO
