: As the many buildings of downtown Pawhuska began to spring up during the early 1900s, the city was left with an undeveloped plot of land in the shape of a triangle. This plot was initially used as a cattle pen, as discussed by local businessman and longtime resident Strat Tolson, whose father worked there:

"Everybody in town had milk cows, so they would bring them down in the morning and put them in that little enclosure. My father and two or three other boys his age would take them out west and graze them and bring them back. Then the owner would come down in the evening, get his milk cow and take it back."

After this a two-story gazebo was built on the plot. The top story served as a bandstand for the town band, while the bottom floor was set up as living quarters, possibly as overflow for the nearby Pawhuska House Hotel. Finally, in 1915 a five-story building was constructed on the land. Resembling New York City's famous Flatiron Building, it housed a variety of local businesses such as lawyers, doctors, jewelers, beauty shops, and to***co stands.

Modern-day visitors can get an inside look at this unique and historic landmark with a stay at the Frontier Hotel Pawhuska, a beautiful 20-room boutique hotel which opened in the renovated Triangle Building in 2017.
