BREAKING TRAVEL NEWS!
Ottawa Eases Travel Restrictions As Covid Cases Decline
Commencing February 28, 2022, Canada will be easing entry requirements for fully vaccinated international travelers. The new measures will include;
-The acceptance of a negative Antigen test result within 24-hour (updated) of arrival into Canada, in addition to the standard molecular (PCR) test. The Antigen test is widely available worldwide, including at most beachfront all-inclusive resorts, offers faster results, and is much more affordable than the molecular test.
-Dropping the pre-arrival test requirement for fully vaccinated Canadians who make short trips - less than 72 hours abroad. (updated: not yet approved but it's on the table)
-Dropping the compulsory testing upon entry into Canada. Only randomly selected travelers will have to take a PCR test upon arrival but will not have to quarantine while waiting for the results.
-Children under 12 who are not fully vaccinated and traveling with a fully vaccinated adult will no longer require quarantining before going back to school or daycare. If they are unvaccinated however, they will require a test upon arrival.
-Dropping the travel advisory from level 3 (avoid all non-essential travel) to level 2 (practice special precautions).
-Currently only 18 Canadian airports are allowed to accept international flights. This will increase including Windsor, London, Fort McMurray, Moncton among others.
Canadians will still require to be fully vaccinated (2 doses) to board an airplane within Canada.
"All measures are subject to reevaluation," advises the federal Health Minister, Jean-Yves Duclos. "As epidemiological situation continues to improve, if hospitalizations continue to diminish and Canadians continue to get their booster shots, further easing of travel restrictions could be considered in coming weeks." This includes a plan for testing of cruise ship travellers at Canadian ports in time for the cruise ship season this Spring.
This comes in time where many provinces are ending vaccination passports and other countries are scrapping all testing requirements of their respective borders for fully vaccinated travelers including the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Denmark, Spain, France, Finland, Norway, Greenland, Croatia, Faroe Islands (Portugal), Mexico, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica.
