Did you know most lakes within Grand Teton National Park were carved out thousands of years ago by glaciation? As glaciers moved across the landscape, they would gouge into the valley floor creating indentations that would eventually fill with water. A similar process occurred as glaciers began to melt. These melting glaciers would leave large indentations in the ground from their massive weight. As time passed, these depressions would fill with water to create many of the lakes we have in the park today.

The largest lake within the park is Jackson Lake which is almost 15 miles long!
