You never know what you might catch while on a Machaca mission! Micah was the happy fisherman that landed this monster Moga on our float yesterday. The Moga is in the Cichlid family and is found on the Atlantic slope side of Costa Rica and in to Nicaragua. It can be tricky to catch on fly but can be done on small poppers and light topwater trout flies with a delicate presentation.

It's like wade fishing for trout but in the warm tropical waters of Costa Ricas lowland rivers. The Tepemechin loves to eat dry flies and small streamers. Classic trout flies work well and our local fly tyers have come up with their own patterns too. Great fun on 2 and 3wt rods and the scenery is pretty nice 😎

A great example in the first photo of the "Tico Trout" which as the story goes is the McCloud River Red Band Trout introduced to Costa Rica's high mountain ranges many many moons ago. An absolute beauty of a trout specimen if you ask this old country boy! 😎
