Pakistan is set to launch its first-ever glass train, aimed at boosting tourism and enhancing regional connectivity. The Murree Tourist Glass Train project, which is currently undergoing a feasibility study to be completed by April 30, 2025, will feature a 55-kilometre track running from Islamabad’s Margalla Railway Station to Bhurban. The project will focus on increasing tourism along the scenic Islamabad-Murree route and will incorporate advanced safety features to ensure reliable operations, even during snowfall. Implemented through a public-private partnership, the train system will also include a cog-and-pinion rack for safety and smoother rides on elevated terrain. Seen as a strategic initiative, the project is expected to mirror India’s Jammu-Srinagar-Baramulla train service, enhancing both tourism and regional connectivity, with potential future expansion to Muzaffarabad.
