Airport operations at Hong Kong International Airport have been seriously disrupted, all flights have been cancelled. All passengers are advised to leave the terminal buildings as soon as possible. Affected passengers please contact their respective airlines for flight arrangement.

Public assembly at airport

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) is aware that there have been calls posted online for a public assembly at the airport on 9-11 August. The airport will operate normally. Passengers should allow sufficient time for travelling to the airport. Passengers are also advised to check the flight status on the Hong Kong International Airport website or the “HKG My Flight” mobile app, or enquire with the airlines for updated information before coming to the airport.

A large group of protestors are blocking roads extensively and setting fire to miscellaneous objects, posing a serious threat to the safety of the road users at scene. The protestors are surrounding and attacking various police stations and the adjacent Disciplined Services Quarters, hurling igniting objects and hard objects, making damages to the premises.

The Police strongly condemn the violent acts and warn the protestors to stop all illegal acts immediately. Police is using minimum force to disperse the protestors

A large group of radical protestors were blocking roads in the busy areas of Causeway Bay. They set fire to a trolley of rubbish bins, cardboards and miscellaneous objects, posing a serious threat to the safety of everyone at scene.

In face of the situation, Police used tear gas in the area to disperse the protestors.

Police appeal to everyone at scene to leave immediately and strongly condemn the violent acts of protestors.

At 6.45pm today (August 4), some participants of a public meeting in the Western District left the venue of assembly in Belcher Bay Park and proceeded to Des Voeux Road West, heading towards Central. They are blocking carriageways and are committing the offence of “Participating in an unauthorized assembly”.

Police appeal to members of the public to leave immediately. Due to the obstruction of traffic, drivers are advised to stay tuned to the latest traffic arrangement.

Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The No. 8 Northeast Gale or Storm Signal is in force.

This means that winds with mean speeds of 63 kilometres per hour or more are expected from the northeast quarter.

At 5 p.m., Tropical Storm Wipha was centred about 310 kilometres south-southwest of Hong Kong (near 19.7 degrees north 113.0 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 15 kilometres per hour towards the vicinity of western Guangdong.

In the past few hours, Wipha took a more northwesterly track. According to the present forecast track, Wipha will be closest to Hong Kong in the coming few hours, skirting around 300 kilometres to our southwest. The Gale or Storm Signal, No. 8 is expected to remain in force for most of the rest of today.

The rainbands associated with Wipha will bring occasional heavy showers and squalls to the territory. Seas are rough with swells. You are advised to stay away from the shoreline and low-lying areas, and not to engage in water sports.

In the past hour, the maximum sustained winds recorded at Waglan Island, Tate's Cairn and Cheung Chau Beach were 81, 77 and 69 kilometres per hour with maximum gusts 99, 104 and 115 kilometres per hour respectively.

Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 is in force.

This means that winds with mean speeds of 41 to 62 kilometres per hour are expected.

At 11 p.m., the tropical depression over the northern part of the South China Sea was estimated to be about 490 kilometres south of Hong Kong (near 17.9 degrees north 114.4 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest at about 12 kilometres per hour towards the vicinity of western Guangdong.

According to the present forecast track, the tropical depression will maintain a distance of over 300 kilometres from Hong Kong on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Unless the tropical depression intensifies significantly or adopts a more northerly track, local winds will not strengthen significantly early on Wednesday. The Strong Wind, Signal No. 3 is expected to remain in force before dawn on Wednesday. Members of the public are advised to take note of the latest weather bulletin before departing on Wednesday morning.

Under the influence of the outer rainbands associated with the tropical depression, there will be heavy squally showers and thunderstorms over the coast of Guangdong in the next few days. Seas will be rough with swells.

In the past hour, the maximum sustained winds recorded at Tate's Cairn, Waglan Island and Cheung Chau Beach were 55, 54 and 48 kilometres per hour with maximum gusts 73, 76 and 65 kilometres per hour respectively.

(Precautionary Announcements with No. 3 Signal)

1. Please complete precautions as soon as possible. Make sure objects likely to be blown away are securely fastened or taken indoors. Check if all windows and doors can be securely locked.

2. Drains should now be cleared of leaves and rubbish. People in low-lying areas should take precautions against flooding.

3. Seas are rough and there are swells. You are advised to stay away from the shoreline and low-lying areas, and not to engage in water sports.

4. Avoid staying in areas exposed to high winds. Drivers using highways and flyovers should be alert to violent gusts.

5. Small vessels not yet in typhoon shelters should seek shelter without delay. Use heavy anchors and check that all deck fittings are firmly fastened.

6. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatory's website and mobile app for the latest information on the tropical cyclone.

Starting from 1700 hours today, the Police conducted a dispersal operation from the west to the east of Yuen Long. As a result, the protestors at most of the locations have already dispersed. Nonetheless, some protestors are still gathering in the south of the Yuen Long MTR station.

The Police will soon proceed with dispersal and appeal to the participants to leave the area towards the north as soon as possible. They may take the MTR West Rail line to leave Yuen Long.

The Police warn that if the protestors still refuse to leave, the Police will conduct arrest actions.

The Police hereby reiterate that the protestors are participating in an unauthorised assembly in breach of the Public Order Ordinance of the Hong Kong Laws, with the maximum penalty at 5 years’ imprisonment.

They are currently walking along Queensway and Hennessy Road towards Wan Chai, obstructing the traffic in the vicinity. KMB and LWB Service Arrangement During Typhoon (17 Sept, 05:20)

Due to the impact of Typhoon Mangkhut, most of the major road condition is unsatisfactory and the facilities of some bus stops have been damaged. This suspension KMB and LWB daytime bus service shall continue until further notice for safety reasons.

KMB and LWB will work closely with government departments to clear obstacles on the road and repair the damaged facilities as soon as possible and to resume the bus service.
